I came across this article entirely by accident while searching for something else and found it VERY informative. I'm posting it not so much for discussion but rather as and educational piece of information. I realize the article is eight years old but I don't believe it's been as widely distributed as it should have been.

For years after the shootings it was generally assumed that both boys were simply angry and wanted to take revenge on classmates and teachers who had bullied or harassed them in some fashion.

At least one member here tries to deny that people like Eric Harris even exist, saying instead that all he needed was the proper treatment and he would have become a 'normal' person. Sadly, that's not the case; thankfully, psychopaths represent a very tiny percentage of the total population.

    psychopaths are not necessarily violent

    Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale

Your score for primary psychopathy, which is related to a selfish, uncaring and manipulative attitude towards others, was 2.6 (of 5). You score for the second psychopathy scale, which is related to impulsivity, was 2.5.

Your composite score is 1.3, the average score for males is 3.0 and 2.8 for females. Scores above 4.6 could possibly indicate clinical psychpathy,

Certainly. There are degrees of everything. And thanks for the little self-test.

I figure an extreme psychopath would probably cheat on it to keep from revealing him/herself

but I answered honestly. Here's my scores:

Your score for primary psychopathy, which is related to a selfish, uncaring and manipulative attitude towards others, was 1.3 (of 5). You score for the second psychopathy scale, which is related to impulsivity, was 1.7.

Your composite score is 0.65, the average score for males is 3.0 and 2.8 for females. Scores above 4.6 could possibly indicate clinical psychpathy, although this test is only a research tool and NOT a diagnostic tool, such a diagnoses can only be made by a trained professional.

    I understand.

My statement about "few" was in reference to the most extreme cases - ones like Eric Harris and most true serial killers.

So Gustav is more of a psychopath than I am... but I already knew that!

My composite = 1.75, an average of my two scores 1.8 and 1.7. Why is everyone else's composite not an average??? Do they expect older people to be less impulsive so they adjust for that?

Why is my composite score (1.75) the exact average of my primary and secondary scores (1.8 + 1.7 / 2), while your composite score is less than half of that average?

    somewhat mystifying yes
age and gender are additional variables and i am not sure how it is weighed (or any other for that matter). the movie may or may not be factored in

the composites from mine and others are obscenely low
    what is the deal here?
    must investigate

    frag
    take the test again

Interesting. Something similar (about delusions of self-importance and attempting to achieve significance after feeling inferior) was stated in this opinion piece about why Mass Massacres happen in general:

    http://behindtheveilofsociety.blogspot.com/2012/08/examining-psychology-and-sociology.html

It discusses the recent events with James Holmes too. However, it goes into other factors, not just that they were 'psychopaths' as the article in the OP shortsightedly does.
