I've noticed this for months, if not years, but in the last week or so it's become crippling. When I edit a post the edit window opens quickly, I alter the post fine but when I click 'save' it just sits there, the little Firefox wheel thing just spinning and spinning for at least 30 seconds. In the last week or so it's begun to get worse, sometimes taking several minutes. Yesterday it even caused SciForums to be blocked, in that I was tired of waiting for it so I opened up another tab but SciForums wouldn't load. Other websites worked fine and instantly (I'm on 50 meg cable, I can stream Iplayer HD while downloading a Linux ISO without breaking a sweat). When I killed the edit page tab suddenly the new SciForums tab loaded.

I don't have this problem with other forums so it's something SciForums related, either in terms of some weird code issue in my browser (Firefox 8.0 in a Linux Mint install less than 2 weeks old but I've seen it happen in many different Firefox installs) or something server end with the altering of the forum data taking a long time. It might be post generation related because even loading this post in the 'preview post' page took longer than loading a random thread.

Anyone else had this? Is it me or is it server side?

I also noticed that if I go to a post and do an edit, it hangs up pretty long after I click to save it. (I use Internet Explorer 9.)

Things were slow last time I logged in. They seem to be ok now.

same here but what i figured out a while back is while it appears to be saving for an interminably long time is that the edit had already been saved

    try it
open another tab for the thread. you will find the edited post while the original tab is still going thru the motions of saving

What I used to do when the editor balked, was stop the upload by pressing ESC, then click on save again. Sometimes I had to refresh the page too.

Now I have the latest version of Firefox, the only way I can avoid waiting for edits to load is repeatedly click save, then after say 10-20 seconds, refresh the page with F5.
I've always had this problem with edits here.

What Gustav says is true. The edit is almost immediately saved, it just seems to be loading the page.

Same here. What I used to do:
    - go to the edit mode, edit the post
    - select all, copy
    - delete the post (it's faster than saving the edit)
    - paste (make a new post).

I didn't do it if there were already other posts below mine, though, especially if my post was already quoted. Why edit the post which has been quoted anyway.
