They are dead. Sure it's wrong, but they are dead, what difference does it make to them except as a matter of public relations?

Just think if it were turned around and it was American GI's that were being desecrated, it is wrong to do no matter who the dead are.

Not necessarily because anyone who dies shouldn't be disgraced by others on moral and ethical grounds no matter who they were.

Anyone who dies doesn't exist any more.

    That`s an opinion.

Also, the deceased live on in the memories of the living - and how do you think the mother would feel about her deceased son being pissed on?

As to the gist of this incident, hardly surprising in USworld where war is the norm, and of course this is what happens when you indoctrinate troops to fight unpeople.

That's why I said it's a public relations matter. Winning hearts and minds, that sort of thing. The violence had already been done.

If someone pisses on a Jewish mass grave, what difference does it make? Forgetting or remembering is a different issue.

So, if you were at a friends funeral and someone came along and started pissing in the grave, that would be OK for you?

I can see no reason to object. Ashes to ashes, piss to piss. Your dead body is just waste anyway. I would be more offended that there was a formal burial like it really means something.

    @spidergoat
Well, at least you are consistent.
Most people would object, I think.

It wasn't a good career move, anyway.
When the Secretary of State calls your actions deplorable,
you are on a fast-track to a court martial.

I think she would be pissed about her son being killed.

These are soldiers in a war.

The people they killed were trying to kill them.

Soldiers thoughout time have celebrated their victory in battle.

This is not really any different.

Hell, Roosevelt was given a letter opener made from a bone from a Japanese soldier.

Seriously though, on a more serious note on this topic. It's pretty fuckin' disgusting to piss on a dead person, even if they deserve to be pissed on, (in which this case, the Taliban did deserve it). Why are all making a big fuss about it anyhow?! These people think their going to get 72 virgins when they die. They'll be turning in joy when you piss on them, can't wait to see the look on the bastards face when they know it's not a Golden shower. It's actually a US Marine pissing on them.

The phenomenon of "trophy-taking" was widespread enough that discussion of it featured prominently in magazines and newspapers, and Franklin Roosevelt himself was reportedly given, by a US Congressman, a gift of a letter-opener made of a man's arm (Roosevelt later ordered that the gift be returned and called for its proper burial).[3][4] The behavior was officially prohibited by the U.S. military, which issued additional guidance as early as 1942 condemning it specifically

Which is bad enough without further desecration of the body, no?
As yet, the victims have not been identified, they could be civilians.
Whatever, it remains morally repugnant and is - again - a sad testament to contemporary morality.
But if he dropped it, could he pick it up?
