No colleges in the US offer parapsychology degrees. No accredited colleges, that is. That's because this isn't an actual field of study - there has never been any evidence that the paranormal existed, and no parapsychologist has EVER been able to demonstrate any sort of an effect - basically, they've never been able to justify their field as a science. So no universities or actual research labs hire them. Franklin Pierce University (fully accredited) does off a minor in parapsychology with a major in psychology for a Bachelors degree.
Someone might be able to get a doctorate from some place like Berkley that make special arrangements to design and award unuasual degrees (there's one in magic).

Although there are tons of books and some studies in the area, the information does not comprise a continous body of work as the theories constantly conflict. This is because it's all made up crap so there is no accurate data for people to test or expand upon.

There are several confusions in this. First you can study these phenomena without believing in them. There are parapsychologists who are skeptical. Second, my first post was in response to the idea that there was no such thing as parapsychology. Look back at what I was responding to. There is a field of study so that person was deluded. The fact is that parapsychologists are, in most cases, extremely rigorous, and use exactly the same kinds of double blind studies and statistical analyses as psychologists. Here is an example of one such person...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Radin

Last you are quite incorrect that there is no evidence. There is a great deal of evidence, but it has not reached the level necessary to work on a peer review level in standard scientific journals given the bias. Look into random number generators or the experiments with images and retrocausation - usually called precognition.

    http://dbem.ws/FeelingFuture.pdf

    This is one example.

You are confusing a total lack of evidence with insufficient evidence to get consensus support by the scientific community.

Though parapsychologists get hired. And in Europe there are programs, though they tend to be inside graduate programs in psychology and often get cover names like anomalous phenomena.

This is also inaccurate. It is quite easy to set up tests given the claimed phenomena. It does not matter if there are confliction explantions for these phenomena. If a phenomena is claimed, it can often be tested for, money and technology and ethics being the restrictions. But many parapsychological phenomena can are are tested for.

The Global Consciousness project is another parapsychological researched project, staffed by scientists, most with degrees from acredited universities, many of whom think there is enough evidence. Note, evidence is often present but not sufficient, especially when there are paradigmatic biases in the consensus community.

I have no interest in presenting a case that there is sufficient evidence. I just thought there was some sloppy thinking and confusion, especially by the person who at least wrote as if parapsychology does not exist and that there cannot be experts. Some of these experts agree with him that there are no such phenomena and they have used rigorous testing to reach their conclusions.

Talk about delusion! "There is a great deal of evidence", it us just that it is not real.

Consensus? Parapsychology has about as much consensus as the crop circle / alien connection.

Parapsychology is simply hope overcoming reason.

ACTUAL evidence of psi abilities or paranormal activity would be a news story worth millions. I also think the government (choose a country) would love to support REAL evidence with some funding. Hell, they've (choose a country) funded programs in the past with zero evidence.

    from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retrocausality
    "As para-science

Outside the mainstream scientific community, retrocausality has also been proposed as a mechanism to explain purported anomalies, paranormal events or personal events, but mainstream scientists generally regarded these explanations as pseudoscientific. Most notably, parapsychologist Helmut Schmidt presented quantum mechanical justifications for retrocausality,[30] eventually claiming that experiments had demonstrated the ability to manipulate radioactive decay through retrocausal psychokinesis.[31] These results and their underlying theory have been rejected by the mainstream scientific community,[32][33] although they continue to have some support from fringe science sources.[34]

Efforts to associate retrocausality with prayer healing[35] have been similarly discounted by legitimate scientific method.[36]"

i used to have precog dreams when i was younger. my early 20's i thought i was going nuts, because it was a regular occurrence.
things like predicting deaths, births and accidents. i did eventually figure out that the dreams were giving me 3 distinct options. do nothing. do something, but that something may have a negative result, or do something that may have a positive result.

the last time i remember having a precog dream i just moved house and in my dream my mother came to visit, while there she told me she had cancer. when she said this i turned round to comfort her and saw a bobble head rasta ashtray sitting on top of my tv.
i then woke up and though no more of it and told no 1 about it... a couple of weeks passed and my mother went away on holiday. as parents to she brought me back a souvenir, yes you guessed it. it was a bobble head rasta ashtray. when i saw it i point blank refused it and gave it to my bro-inlaw.
6 years later my mother hasnt been diagnosed with cancer.

now self fulfilling prophecy i can understand, but that rasta ashtray? an object i had never seen b4 apart from in the dream, suddenly turns up... thats spooky.

I believe in precognition, and have experienced the same.

I also have the ability to affect my dreams.

I have severe sleep apnea. I wake up an average of 3 times per hour as a result of this. I often interrupt dreams, and when I return to sleep I can pick up a dream where it left off.

Now I can alter my dream. I can "lucid dream" with very little effort. I can fly or add qualities to my dream that I wish were there much like a holodeck in star trek.

I am amazed at how intricate dreams can be, and you can swear something is sane and possible when you are lucid, but as you wake up you realize you thought something crazy would work. Maybe you thought of an invention people could use like a washing machine in their car. In the dream it makes total sense, but in reality you shake your head.

sometimes I dream about my upcoming day because I know what I have planned. Sometimes I might have a dream where I saw someone rob a bank, and then later that day i see a store getting robbed firsthand.

It happens fairly frequently. maybe start setting your clocks and writing dreams down. I keep a digital recorder beside my bed.

These are my beliefs, and am not going to discuss them further on this thread. I am well versed in what constitutes chance.

Do not expect people to have rational explanations for this, as there is none at this time. Maybe in 20 years.

Isn't magic great! Just think if you hadn't remebered the dream you might have accepted the gift and then your mom would have died!

not majic, just erring on the cautious side. like i said that was the last 1 i had. for 5-6 years previous i was having them regularly. previous to that. i predicted 3 accidents 2 deaths and a birth... all from lucid dreams...
funny thing is 1s i fully accepted that something strange was happening the dreams stopped.
the first time i remember having precog dreams was after i fell off my bike and hit my head just above my right ear at the age of 7. the night after was when i had the first that i can honestly say was precognitive. then over the next 15 or so years they would come and go, normally just b4 a big event in my life.

now im quite willing to believe that my subconscious was taking all the data, sorting it into relevant information and with that giving me the end result in a dream.
but like i say there are things that happened that i just cant explain. like the bobble head. the bobble head is just 1 of many examples or the weirdness of it all.

today im glad i dont have em any more. life is much easier when you dont have that dread of having dejavu then knowing what is gonna happen...

do i think i was having psycic visions? NO!
what i think was happening was my subconscious took in all the data it needed then dished up different scenarios in the dreams. each 1 slightly different with a different outcome.
but it still doesnt explain the bobble head

I've had one of these dreams as well. I had a lucid dream, I was controlling it. I decided to test out the dream environment. I went on a walk around the block. I decided that I would get up in the morning, and go on the same walk to see what was different in a dream from real life. At the top of my lane a neighbour in my dream had a new white van, and their old van was blue. So I decided that this was a good thing to check the next day.. did they now have a new white van? So I went on the same walk the next day, and they had a new white van.

But.... I don't believe in the future. I only believe in the present. So I have no choice but to say... fluke.

So Pincho, did you write down your prediction of a new white van as soon as you woke up? Or did you retrofit the memory into your dream when you saw the white van.

Are you familiar with the phenomena of secondary elaboration of dreams?

I have no problem with the future, but I don't believe it is fixed, it is more a likely path, but it can be altered by actions in the now.

I went up the lane to look for the white van at a certain house. So the fact that I went to look for it suggests that I didn't need to see it to retrofit it.

The thought in my dream this morning was "they find the densest part of the Universe and propose this to be the point where the Big Bang commenced".

Has this already been done? Well if it hasn't it is about to. There Alex I have written it down for you.

What Alex is getting at is that in your dream it was a creamy while van but in fact it was off white. So you fail.
I have found numbers in my dreams seldom have any relevance to reality.
It could have have something to do with being useless at maths in real life too.

But you are making up fake ambiguities. I never said any of those things. There is no point posting your own imaginary ambiguities, you only create confusion. A white van is a white van, you can't have any ambiguities in that description.
