dispite the great popularity of acai and my great interest in south america, I would be more supportive of broccoli as the greatest superfood. It prevents cataracts and a wide range of other ilnesses, strongly prevents cancer has ever nutrient you need except vitamin B12 and complete protien which are only found in animals and to top it off it is low calorie. besides, unlike broccoli, acai can't even be bought fresh unless one finds themself in the Amazon. To top it off broccoli is relatively cheap, and very cheap at some times. Acai is expensive, broccoli is cheap and with more health benefits anyway. So when you are thinking of buying a healthy superfood you might want to think about spending a couple dollars on lots of broccoli instead on a tiny bit of acai.

    True. Broccoli is great.
Another superfood which costs little is Liver.
You shouldn't eat it more than once a week though,
or you may overdose on vitamin A.

I suppose tacos, pizza, and beer don't have any broccoli.
I heard somewhere that broccoli isn't even in any of the main food groups, that it's actually in the plywood family.

if anything broccoli takes care of 3 of the 4 main food groups. the only reason we have food groups is to ensure people get all the nutrients they need. the calcium which is the most important from milk apparently can be absorbed more effictively and substantially than in milk. all te nutiends from grain products including fibre are found in significant amounts in broccoli and of course broccoli is a vegetable. It does not matter which foods you actually get the nutrients from. people will eat a variety of things anyways not because they need it but because it tastes better that way. I am not sure if you can overdose on vitamin A. I think have learned somewhere that excessive ingestion of any of the micronutrients can happen on supplements, but not on any common foods.

great! another point supporting my idea of broccoli still being the best superfood. If it is proven that pregnants can't eat liver then it can't be the best food because the worlds best superfood should be ok for everyone. even acai has facts that contradict it as the best superfood. it is high calorie and the many on weight loss diets could not eat too much of it.

    Broccoli gives you wind.
    Liver doesn't.
    Neither does chocolate.

If someone denies broccoli as a superfood because it gives you wind than pass the trophie on to red bull. because it gives you wings!

The broccoli I grew this year was Super Duper Broccoli. It was so strong I couldn't keep it in the refrigerator with out effecting the taste of all the other food.
It smelled up the entire house raw uncooked and was hot like a radish.

I wonder if that means it was even better for you?

It is the vegetable most powerfully packed with phytochemicals that assasinate cancer cells and hold a host of other health benefits. it does not suprise me that it smells! most often it doesn't though.

    Broccoli is a good food

    But

Broccoli does not prevent cataracts, though there is evidence that people with a diet high in lutein and zeaxanthin rich foods there is a ~20 percent less chance of developing age-related cataracts.

Broccoli does not strongly prevent cancer. I doubt there is any study that shows that it even mildly prevents cancer.

Broccoli does not have every nutrient you need besides B12 (no Vit D, low Vit E, Niacin and Thiamin)

Broccoli has good quality protein, just not that much of it (~150 g serving = ~4 g protein)

Note: Other foods which are high in lutein and zeaxanthin include nearly any colorful vegetable such as spinach, collard greens, kale, mustard greens, peppers etc as well as Winter squash and eggs. Eggs though have the highest bioavailability of Lutein.
