I know! And remember the massive riots that happened when her blog hit the intertubes and all those dirty-underweared Westerners saw those pictures?

    Oh, wait.

    forgot one

Yeah! It's just like how the media self-censors those topless images of girls on Page 3 in the Sun!

Oh, wait. It's the complete opposite of that, like how the OP is the complete opposite of a reasoned societal accusation.

You mean Saudi Arabia. And it seems that they censor nudity in the Daily Mail too yes? Apparently thats what the global standard for morality is based on: what distracts men. There are copyrights attached to tits and ass in the UK while the rest of the woman is public domain, same as in Egypt.

God forbid anyone should be distracted by nipples

You need to remember that you are talking to people who come from a society where the flash of a nipple in a superbowl entertainment segment nearly caused a meltdown of society and where breastfeeding in public is "inappropriate". You are also speaking to people who live in a society where women are blamed for their own rapes if they dress or behave in a certain manner that might attract attention or even no attention.

So can you really be surprised?

    Really?

Sam I do love the irony, I also loved the comments that Australia (and the US) were going into Afghanistan to liberate women from the oppression of being forced to cover up while a group of uni students who striped naked, painted themselves gold and chained themselves to the gates of parliament we put on the sex offenders registry.

Her nudity is not being censored one itty bitty bit SAM.

If we couldn't see her web site, that would be censoring, but most of the news sites I've been to, like your post, contain a link to her site.

Which works just fine. (and it doesn't appear to me that the nudity is in protest anything, but just a ploy to drive viewers to her (soft porn?) site)

Meaning if you want to see her (and others) naked you can.

Doesn't mean our news media has to showcase her actual nudity to cover the story.

Once again just SAM trying to make something against the West when in fact there is nothing at all there.

    See, no censorship.

People that see everyday, through the media, all of the violence and hate will tend to become desensitized to any form of violence that is either shown or is happening around them. Surgeons who are operating on people have to realize death will happen to their patients and therefore are desensitized to a certain degree. They are trying to be compassionate while realizing they can't save everyone and must find a way to becoming to emotionally involved .

Your thread title is somewhat misleading as well the daily mail does not equal "western media"

We get full on frontal here in Norway when it is appropriate to the story at hand.

    Internets news......

Egyptian blogger risk scorn hatred and bodily harm in a protest against restrictions in the Egyptian press....

In other news random thread starter completely misses her point with shouts of evil west

    This was her point:

Right here:--> Put on trial the artists' models who posed nude for art schools until the early 70s, hide the art books and destroy the nude statues of antiquity, then undress and stand before a mirror and burn your bodies that you despise to forever rid yourselves of your sexual hangups before you direct your humiliation and chauvinism and dare to try to deny me my freedom of expression

So yeah, to all the people whose sensibilities were defended by the Daily mail and other papers that cut off or censored her body parts - you're IT

Just guessing, but it could be a child pornography law issue. From what I understand, the publisher is required to have "proof of age" before publishing photos. While the girl in the photo is 20, she could easily be 15. If they didn't have proof of age, they wouldn't be able to post the nude pics.

Right, and how long would it take to confirm her age? She's a uni student

Here is another bunch that does not get it:

Israelis strip in support of Egypt blogger

Dozens of women pose for nearly nude group shot in show of solidarity for young activist who posted naked photo in protest of limited freedom of expression in her country

How is it solidarity if they are hiding behind a cover?

I believe they are required to have a physical photocopy of a legal ID on file. What would be your opinion if the girl was actually 15, and not 20?

She's a fricking UNIVERSITY student. All her bio is easily available. Its not her first clash with the liberals in Egypt either

Good question. I think she is entitled to express herself as she likes. What do you think? Is nudity = sexuality?

What else were you expecting? But cue the usual hysteria and specious "comparisons" of agreement anyways.

Bio's can be wrong. Underaged kids can attend college. The point I was trying to make is there are laws that require them to have a copy of her ID in order to post nude photos of her. Without that, they aren't going to take the chance.
