You already mentioned that the oceans average depth is over two miles deep.

Do you really think that the energy of about 5 light bulbs over an area the size of a football field is going to affect the heat content in the 2.5 miles of water above it, enough to measure?

On the forum I am used to, statements had to be backed up with evidence.
The physics of the situation state that matter will contract upon cooling so cooling Earth will cause a contraction of the terrestrial surface and hence an increase the depths of the oceans.
So it is dependant on whether there is any net cooling? I wonder if the effect could be calculated?

Nope, the reason why the crust is on the outside of the earth is that it is less dense than the melted portion. It isn't contracting.

Like I keep telling you, the cooling of the earth is such a very slow process it doesn't factor into any human timeline. The rate of cooling, from the 5-6000 C current temp is supposed to be about 100 C per BILLION years.

The earth will be swallowed by the sun LONG before it cools off even a tiny bit.

If that is the rate of cooling ok so now to find it Coefficient of Linear Expansion of the Material?

I want to calculate how much the Earth shrinks every year based on some estimates.

    It DOESN'T SHRINK at all.

The Crust FLOATS because it is less dense.

Thus the slowly cooling earth is getting ever so slightly larger (but ever so slightly)

We probably gain a bit more from picking up ~15 million metric tons per year of cosmic dust in our orbital path.

The crust is just a fraction of the Earth's mass. The shrinkage of the core and mantle are the bits that concern me. If they shrink the crust will alter it tensions by tectonic plate movements. So the crust may not shrink but it will adjust. The volume of the oceans will get reduced so the levels rise. (like a sliding cake tin)

    Well, Trippy

Would you be referring to the post I made regarding the earths electromagentic feild.

Its funny how you refute basic science, Do you prehaps understand a electric circuit, and the relative current flux. you know a basic generator which is common in many household should carry the simple understanding of the effects of electromagnetic feild failure.

Let me help your limited understanding of the reality you live in, if you assume the emf feild of the earth represnts 100 th the energy of earth, you can exspect a change in physical behavior of earth equal to 100th that of earth. if yearly decline is 0.0001 of the earth magnetic feild you would exspect to see seasonal changes.

so you know there is more than one emf feild of the earth.

Lastly given the commets on the boards it would see that you exisit to be predjuice, I take it that this is due to your lack of education, or ablility to observe. maybe you should consider another past time besides being a moderator.

Ah, that's where your mistake is Dwayne.
In actual fact it's because your posts contain no science, consist entirely of badly-spelt, ungrammatical nonsense and waste band width.
Maybe you should consider not posting.

    Word salad.

If you have an issue with my decisions as moderator, feel free to air them in SFOG, this is not the place for it. In this subforum, the topic of discussion is Earth Science.

    Well,
Don't forget your are running conversation on a international forum.

Secondly you have produced little science disscussion, and poor observation to deduction since i first encountered your here at the forum.

Perhaps you should study the earth before you speeak to me about it

So you're claiming that English isn't your first language?
    That you're incapable of using a spell-checker?
That DwayneD.L.Rabon the self-proclaimed super-genius hasn't learned to use grammar?

While you have produced NO science discussion. And aren't qualified (or equipped) to judge my observation or deduction.

    I have, quite extensively.

Not only have I studied it, but I have studied its chemistry and its physics, which is how I recognize your post as being word salad.

    But you have it backward.
As the interior very very very slowly cools, it very very very slowly expands, not shrinks.

Try not starting at a conclusion, but working to a conclusion based on the facts.

You need to make up your mind. Is the body of the Earth cooling or heating?

The whole of the south of England is falling, and the north of England and Scotland are rising.
The reason for this is that during the last ice age, which wasn't long ago, there was a much thicker layer of ice at the top of Britain. The ice thinned out and ended somewhere in London, coincidentally.
The top end of Britain actually sank under the weight, and the bottom end rose.
Now with the ice gone, it is doing the opposite.
This isn't an anti-global warming post, it's geology.
