I think there is a culture clash involved here.

And I do not mean something relativistic and superficial with this, and I don't mean a why-can't-we-all-just-get-along.

The differences between cultures are real, and inter-cultural interactions can lead to incidents that progressivley worsen the state of further communication.

There is a good reason why nationalists and racists want to "keep things among themselves": because it is only within the same culture that there can be meaningful and satisfactory interaction.

In the long run, multiculturalism is bound to lead to a lessening of standards of virtue and dissatisfaction of all who interact in a multicultural society.

 

I don't think it is anything particularly personal.

There are two other notable Indians/Hindus on this forum, Sam and rcscwc.
Essentially, they display traits that are the same as yours - and they are traits that (esp. US) Westerners tend to find offensive.

It is a kind of directness and aloofness, a considerable measure of self-respect that for Western terms is too much.

Functioning in a multicultural society is something that I am personally interested in and have also made efforts to formally educate myself on the matter.

I find it key that one cannot hold on to one's specific cultural givens and identify with them, without becoming dysfunctional by doing so.
One either has to transcend such identification, or intesify it while limiting one's intercultural interactions. Otherwise, life is awfully stressful.

Sure, Sam has to some degree been able to incorporate some Western attitudes, and she is also a solitary Muslim, so she is not a typical Indian/Hindu.
Still, her responses to particular challenges are of the same kind as, say, rcscwc's.

Gustav, to be blunt - half the time, we have no idea what in the world you are talking about or referring to... sometimes it's amusing, sometimes it's confusing, and a lot of the time it seems to lead to conflicts, often with people not even remotely intended to receive your message... just puttin that out there mate.
