Oh, I came on board during Yet Another Evolution Denial Thread...

I felt the need to assert what I shared 96% DNA with.
I have two significant ex-boyfriends, one significant(ly insane) ex-girlfriend, and my wife...we've been together 9 years now.

As for what Gendanken says about me...happiness is a well-stocked ignore list. Arguments are triggers these days, even online ones.

Edited to add:I do note that she excoriates women for what's become gender-normative behavior in the club scene, and makes fun of me for not having gender-normative behavior.

Don't put Gendanken on your ignore list. She's an angry little sparrow, 'tis true, but isn't unintelligent. Her only real faults are that her narcissism renders her completely incapable of applying her own insight to herself, (at least that she'll have the courage to admit in public) and that when pressed or on a vendetta she'll resort to the circus, but given this is an online forum you only need look beyond it. She is by no means alone in that respect - albeit particularly canny when it comes to the second.

We have a deplorable tendency to assign value to, or trust in, the words of another based solely upon whether or not we like them. Granted, in some instances we are entirely correct to do so; there are a plethora of truly stupid people frequenting this place, and too many of those command far more respect than that to which they are entitled by dint of authority or that they appeal to a common denominator. But if we were to indulge that tendency too far, we end up with a situation not dissimilar to the means by which American presidents are elected to office.

Gendanken and I don't get along terribly well, that much is true - but I would not ever ignore anything she posts. Other than on those occasions when she's being silly, but even that requires one read it first.

If you can't handle it, don't engage... but the ignore list is not going to provide you with anything other than half the book.

    No, not particularly.

You women can be savage creatures, though. You do have this nasty tendency to use whatever means available to accomplish your aims, and when that aim is the destruction of a man... he should beware. Men tend to take care of matters themselves, but women tend to cry rape and have someone else do it. She'll lay the boot in herself, of course, but never alone.
Like that little guy I spoke about earlier.

I am, of course, oversimplifying matters and generalising quite a bit. Will you forgive me?

    and that is?

*snort* here's me being all drunkenly, semi-poetically obtuse, and you're making jokes.
    That requires no forgiveness.

    Something, but hardly substantial.

Then I suppose I shall remain unforgiven.
Generalisations and stereotypes, while they may be inapplicable to many, do not originate in a void. While they may be eroded with time, they retain at least enough accuracy to be useful for comedy routines.

    Ask any black comedian.

Oh dear. Was that another one?

    Yes, but nevermind.

Rather tell me: What is troubling you? Is a woman trying to destroy you?

She's brilliant, I will give her that, but as I read her I started having an emotional and physical reaction to her compulsive button pushing.
Nauseous and upset, mainly. That's what I meant by triggered, I have a strong, difficult-to-control visceral reaction to her behavior.

I really can't take arguing any more, and I suppose this is symptomatic.

The next door neighbor had this guy heckling him in his front yard, trying to pick a fight last year, and my hands were shaking so badly I could not load my own revolver. Very annoying. But the guy needed to go away right then.

Until such time as I stop feeling nauseous, upset, and disgusted when I read Gendanken's posts...

More than one have tried, some with a certain panache that would make the experience most entertaining were one not the target of it, but not at present, no.
When one feels droplets of rain, however, it's often the prelude to a deluge. Having said that, some of us don't mind a stroll in the rain. Easier in my case, of course. Tropical climate.

Not a woman; it's the "Ought". I can't find the thread now, but I read it earlier.

    You'll keep your revolver loaded?

I often come on here with that specific purpose in mind - to feel disgusted or angry. I have never really understood the interest in a "civil" conversation, to be honest, other than for very brief periods... or when the drink makes me expansive and melancholy. I do like animated, of course, and perhaps there is the ideal ground. But with the majority, animated becomes almost synonymous with offensive.
    People can be such nancies.
And you, Chimpkin, take everything far too personally, considering where you are. It's a little like becoming annoyed with the tv program you're watching, unless you're one to channel that into something constructive elsewhere.

Frankly, you wouldn't have lasted more than a few posts in the good old days.

    The good old days...

To bring things back on topic a little, though, I would say at this point that those very same "good old days" may be nothing more than a waking dream of my own. If we are to assume that a dream is nothing more than random information without rationalisation, it would be a mistake to extrapolate from that that any two people, even given identical information, are going to produce the same rationalisation. We're all wandering around in a daydream, really. Some just dream more intensely than others.

Perhaps I'm a little too inebriated now.

In other words: She's angry at women in general for living down to a stereotype, but she's also angry at the mavericks who don't live down to that stereotype because they deny her the satisfaction of earning her anger?

Reminds me of certain Afro-Americans. "I spit on you because you're lackeys for the white man...

"But I also spit on you over there who are not like those others, for not helping us maintain our solidarity."

In normal waking states, the chemical juices in our brain flow regularly, with a certain amount going this way, and a regular amount going that way.

In dreams the rivers flood, and chemicals that should not be there go there, and things mix and mash together.

I have woken up from dreams with emotions lingering in my brain that have no English description. Feelings that are so alien so that I can hardly put my finger on them, nor will I ever be able to again. It's as if the chemicals in my brain have gone through a blender, producing unique once in a lifetime flavors.

I don't think this speaks much for the meaning of dreams, which might be a meaningless question depending on your stance. But it does a good job describing the experience of them.

In Tibetan dream yoga we use dreams to realize that Buddhist truth about life as an illusion by transforming our bodies into different forms so that we see ourselves as less real. Then we take the experience into real life, observing how everyone puts a different spin on things.

The flow of thought sees nothing we experience is the same for everyone, or in other words nothing is truly as it seems. Everything is illusion in that sense of the word.

This is one way humans create meaning from dreams.

Loneliness shouldn't signify clipped wings. Wet ones, perhaps.

But in this instance, happiness and lust are mingling to create whole new… what was it exactly Search & Destroy said… ?

    Right. That.

Oh, probably not. The little bitty subculture has shifted here. In RL, I miss the slam poetry scene here from ten years ago. Loss is the one constant as long as you're wearing an animate carcass, no?

Surprised you haven't gone looking for somewhere you can flame at, if that's what makes you happy. It doesn't me.
You know, I don't have a working TV and don't want one. I really hate television.

Part of what sort of input you receive is the filters you use.
My filters were very thick. They suddenly and surprisingly went mostly away as of May first. There was screaming involved.
Since I'm in a very odd state right now, I'm quite cautious with what I expose myself to.

    Anyway...on topic...
There are dreams that I have woken up from in religious awe, religious and sexual ecstasy (that was a very fun one), one in which I seem to have gotten out of body and ran around the room. I haven't been having vivid dreams as much lately. I did for many, many years though.
I had the recurrent nightmares as a child I mentioned previously.
Before I was treated for depression, I dreamed in black and white.

    Night terrors. Had one?

You wake up, open you eyes and the dream imagery does not shut off. So when I was 4 I woke up from a nightmare, jumped up and screamed because my room was filled with giant shadow-shapes with red eyes.

Tch, Prudence. You really shouldn't take anything I write in that state seriously, you know. I probably thought I was being terribly clever at the time.
Having said that, I suppose you're right. Wrong word.

While I'm here, you could also try snorting it. That, however, can leave a hole in the roof of your mouth you can't keep you tongue out of. I was thinking of Coca-Cola and copper coins for days after, as well. Not something you'd want to do too often.

... has it ever been the same for you, after?
