it is a solid , you have also spin and vibration thats a part of the atom as well my point is that the electromagnetic field that gold produced to cause deflection , is beause of the movement , of the field within the quantum of the atom

nuclear fusion it breaks the quark attraction and hence gives off an enormous amount of energy , within each atom the quarks move out , beyond the strong attraction which lets in other quarks of the same hence heliem , a heavier , element than hydrogen , because it has more quarks within it but this is just the surface energy potenial of qantum energy
