    Not in our Constitution.

Our government can only be changed by popular vote.

    Representatives every 2 years
    President every 4 years
    Senators every 6 years.

Or via Constitutional Amendments or Impeachment proceedings.

    Not by taking up Arms.

For a start off, the protest itself hasn't been outlawed, from what I've seen it looks like what's being actioned on are city council by-laws regarding the semi-permanent occupation of a public space, or perhaps health and saftey laws (or by-laws).

Extrapolating from what I know based on my experience here, and comments that I have seen regarding the Ocuppy Chicago protest, the threshold appears to be the erection of semi-permanent structure, be they stalls or tents. So if, for example, they were able to organize to have people there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without the erection of structures such as tents, then that might be an example of fulfilling the objectives of the protest without breaking the city bylaws. But then again, if there are bylaws limiting (for example) how many consecutive hours any group can use the space for without a permit 'Occupy Chicago' (for example) being the group in this instance.

Such bylaws are enacted for the protection of the rights of the public as a whole, because they prevent, for example, unscrupulous hawkers from occupying public spaces, and protect the right of the general public to access the public space, by preventing any particular group from monopolizing it.

    these series of events.....
The protest also got some heavy-hitting political support as San Francisco Supervisors David Chiu and John Avalos, Jane Kim, Eric Mar and David Campos, San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi and State Senator Leland Yee came down to the plaza Wednesday night, although the official policy from City Hall was that they were all subject to arrest if they stayed overnight. Yee was in contact with San Francisco police during the early morning hours Thursday and tweeted to his followers that the police were not coming.

"What we saw in Oakland last night is not what we want to happen in San Francisco," said Board president David Chiu, who was one of five supervisors there to support the Occupy movement. "We will do anything we can to avoid a confrontation between the Occupy San Francisco protesters and the San Francisco Police Department."

must be like an alternate universe, yes? you favor a rigid adherence to the letter of the law rather than a humane approach. this is a protest movement that spans the globe and all that concerns you is that city ordinances are been violated.

    you are saying it again

    No it was moronic.

All this will do is raise the cost to the banks and that is invariably passed on to consumers.

As to the hours supposedly taken away from things he doesn't like, again no different departments do each of those things so it will have no impact on them either.

Finally, those rigid ones will just be out-sorted at the post office and increase the cost to the postal system, not the banks.

Great! With increased costs to the banks, maybe they'll stop trying to rope people in to extending more credit and sucking them dry via more usury.

Or they'll pass on a whole bunch of other costs which will make them look like bigger assholes than they already appear to be. If costs go up for the government, maybe they'll tell the banks they can't send their credit card crack offers through the mail? Who cares. Either way, it's the banks that lose. You can sit their with you fingers in your ears all you want going, "nyah nyah nyah, I can't hear you, this will only hurt the economy and you will only shoot yourselves in the foot type garbage," but the empirical facts beg to differ. The people are out on the street. Here we are on a forum chatting about it. The financial elites of the system are looting and bankrupting it all. So, what ever. Live in your own world.

It's still a silly and rather childish idea. Even stacking the mailroom ten feet deep in junk mail wouldn't have the slightest effect on banking operations NOR hinder the lobbyists' efforts in DC the tiniest bit.

The whole thing is like something a six-year-old would dream up. Pitiful.

These protests are much like those from the days of my youth in the 60s. The point of all of them is simply to protest - that is an end unto itself. I have heard absolutely nothing from any of the protestors in the way of suggestions on what to change the system TO. They only want to bitch, they don't seem to have rolled up their sleeves and offered constructive ideas for change. Until they do, they are insignificant.

    Exactly!

This current group og dummies are nothing more than the New Age version of the hippies in the 60s. In fact, most of them are nothing more than people who have essentially joined the latest version of a street party. No real ideas for change, no goals and no agenda.

I can properly label them "dummies" because once they've grown tired of this silly kick and drifted off, they will have accomplished EXACTLY the same as those protests/sit-ins back in the 60s did - absolutely nothing!

    Stupid, stupid ignorant idiots.

First of all. There are no Official Demands of the Occupy Movement. that being said, multiple factions of the movement have been assembling to discuss and vote on the output and message for the movement. Below is a LIST OF PROPOSED "DEMANDS FOR CONGRESS" proposed by the website (occupywallstreet.org) which does not entirely represent the Occupy Wall Street General Assembly. Below this list is a list of grievance that citizens have provided nationally and have voted on in solidarity of the movement.

#CONGRESS PASS HR 1489 ("RETURN TO PRUDENT BANKING ACT" http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-1489 ). THIS REINSTATES MANY PROVISIONS OF THE GLASS-STEAGALL ACT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass–Steagall_Act --- Wiki entry summary: The repeal of provisions of the Glass–Steagall Act of 1933 by the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act in 1999 effectively removed the separation that previously existed between investment banking which issued securities and commercial banks which accepted deposits. The deregulation also removed conflict of interest prohibitions between investment bankers serving as officers of commercial banks. Most economists believe this repeal directly contributed to the severity of the Financial crisis of 2007–2011 by allowing Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depositors' money that was held in commercial banks owned or created by the investment firms. Here's detail on repeal in 1999 and how it happened: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass–Steagall_Act#Repeal .

#USE CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORITY AND OVERSIGHT TO ENSURE APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AGENCIES FULLY INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE THE WALL STREET CRIMINALS who clearly broke the law and helped cause the 2008 financial crisis in the following notable cases: (insert list of the most clear cut criminal actions). There is a pretty broad consensus that there is a clear group of people who got away with millions / billions illegally and haven't been brought to justice. Boy would this be long overdue and cathartic for millions of Americans. It would also be a shot across the bow for the financial industry. If you watch the solidly researched and awared winning documentary film "Inside Job" that was narrated by Matt Damon (pretty brave Matt!) and do other research, it wouldn't take long to develop the list.

#CONGRESS ENACT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY REVERSING THE EFFECTS OF THE CITIZENS UNITED SUPREME COURT DECISION which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections. The result is that corporations can pretty much buy elections. Corporations should be highly limited in ability to contribute to political campaigns no matter what the election and no matter what the form of media. This legislation should also RE-ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IN THE U.S. SO THAT POLITICAL CANDIDATES ARE GIVEN EQUAL TIME FOR FREE AT REASONABLE INTERVALS IN DAILY PROGRAMMING DURING CAMPAIGN SEASON. The same should extend to other media.

#CONGRESS PASS THE BUFFETT RULE ON FAIR TAXATION SO THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE & CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOP HOLES AND ENACT A PROHIBITION ON HIDING FUNDS OFF SHORE. No more GE paying zero or negative taxes. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share. (If we have a really had a good negotiating position and have the place surrounded, we could actually dial up taxes on millionaires, billionaires and corporations even higher...back to what they once were in the 50's and 60's.

#CONGRESS COMPLETELY REVAMP THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION and staff it at all levels with proven professionals who get the job done protecting the integrity of the marketplace so citizens and investors are both protected. This agency needs a large staff and needs to be well-funded. It's currently has a joke of a budget and is run by Wall St. insiders who often leave for high ticket cushy jobs with the corporations they were just regulating.

#CONGRESS PASS SPECIFIC AND EFFECTIVE LAWS LIMITING THE INFLUENCE OF LOBBYISTS AND ELIMINATING THE PRACTICE OF LOBBYISTS WRITING LEGISLATION THAT ENDS UP ON THE FLOOR OF CONGRESS.

#CONGRESS PASSING "Revolving Door Legislation" LEGISLATION ELIMINATING THE ABILITY OF FORMER GOVERNMENT REGULATORS GOING TO WORK FOR CORPORATIONS THAT THEY ONCE REGULATED. So, you don't get to work at the FDA for five years playing softball with Pfizer and then go to work for Pfizer making $195,000 a year. While they're at it, Congress should pass specific and effective laws to enforce strict judicial standards of conduct in matters concerning conflicts of interest. So long as judges are culled from the ranks of corporate attorneys the 1% will retain control.

Now banks are bad because they offer Credit?

    WTF?

Over 63 million account holders at BofA apparently don't think so.

Now you want the government to determine what offers can and can't be mailed to potential customers?

    WTF?

    From this pitiful scheme?
    Hardly.
The brunt of this would fall on the Postal system.

A TINY TINY percent of the people are out on the street.

BFD, we chat about all sorts of things. Doesn't make it earth shattering.

#OCCUPYWALLSTREET is a leaderless people powered movement for democracy that began in America on September 17 with an encampment in the financial district of New York City. Inspired by the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising and the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy … join your local #OCCUPY! We're now in DAY 43.

    No, Gustav.

Living in an alternate universe is believing that because somebody points something out, that they support it.
