yes so in order to ban for an insult, the quotation marks were edited out. that is tampering with the evidence quotes imply that the statement is temporally located in the past, not the present the contents of quotes come in all forms. it does not have to conform to any other writing convention other than bracketing.do you disagree? why? an analysis of the reasoning for the current interpretation would indicate the post immediately preceding this "later post" would be held to be the intended target technicalities mean nothing in this allegedly science forum, doesit? it is instinct and emotion that holds sway
Gustav, By the responses in this thread, it would seem that at least some others also interpreted your remark in quotations as intentionally directed. I have made as clear as I am able, how I would distinguish between the remark as you made it and some alternative means or timing of presenting the same words. Thank you for the exchanges. I have nothing further to add at this time. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I would have thought the general purpose of a quotation was to use somebody's already used expression in place of one's own... perhaps because they are more eloquent, but often to demonstrate that more significant people share the same thought. Without additional context it appears that G's post was an attempt to mimick the purpose of the post above. The post above G's seems an attempt to convey their position by using someone else's words - but without additional context it is not possible to say exactly. However, it might also have been that the thread was "What is your favourite quote?" So to determine whether the intention of G's post was intended as an insult (and I think it is the intention that is key) one would need to understand the full context. As such I helpfully abstain from voting. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well, any person who could be that easily insulted surely has an issue. As to your intent, that's another thing. Hey, you're still here, posting. Besides, did you honestly expect not to get an infraction? I feel like it's part of your MO these days. You know, be the opposer to the oppressive moderators of the forum. It used to bug me, but I feel like you have your place in this website and, for better or worse, you call a lot of attention to stuff that probably needs a little light shined on it. But, there are times when I think--for shits and giggles--you intentionally cross the line just to see how far you can go. I consider this to be one of those occasions (the crossing of the line part, not the calling out of oppressive mods part). ~String
Would you not have taken such a quote of the same poster as an insult? I mean, it is taking the post as being in context. I suppose one could be charitable and assume the lesser infraction that he is simply off topic and thinks others may take an interest in things he said in other contexts, but this ends up being an implicit assumption he is not very bright.
Well, I certainly hope not. I think it was a funny and appropriate use of a joke/insult. And now I know that you simply chose one of your quotes at random and the content was not intended to be taken as referring to the thread starter Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!(is that really your position?) Very nice exchange. And here I feel the small case 'n' means we cannot consider Gustav's statement above a confession. However I think that issue needs it's own thread. MODERATOR!

A: "You're stupid." B: "That's all you've got to say to me by way of insult?!" A: "Just wait. It'll eat you up." Heard this in a film, forgot which one.
I myself am sometimes impressed by the things I have said. Why not quote myself, if the occasion calls for a "quote of the day"?
Sure, truly I am LOL right now, but, I mean, this was a pointed quote. I love the faux naiveté. There is something very childlike in the way Gustav's act of quoting is being approached legalistically. I remember working up these kinds of arguments with my parents. Again, I don't think there was any bad deed performed, but I can't simply view Gustav's post as a Tourrette's citation in an innocent participation. But it makes me laugh each time when this line is run.
