Will the human race revert to nakedness?

Less and less do we wear, or even possess, the heavy outer clothes that earlier generations kept in their wardrobes. Less and less is there any need to wrap up warm in winter. Whether in our own homes, in shops or offices, or in private or public transport, we expect to be kept at a temperature at which the insulation provided by clothing becomes of diminishing importance. The trend to is lighter garments covering a lesser extent of the body. People feel freer and more at ease in skimpier clothing.

It can certainly be only a matter of time before everyday clothing at home and in the office is reduced to the level one expects to see on a tropical beach. But will it stop there? The increasing level of sexual freedom permitted by effective contraception and effective anti-STD medication will remove the need for traditional forms of modesty. It will remove the need for sexual restraint, especially as surgery to make all of us beautiful becomes more routine. Will not nakedness come into its own simply because people begin to feel that it is more natural?

Such things happen by degrees, and not every office is going to adopt nakedness at once. I suggest that bar staff will be among the first to go naked, fostering a sense of freedom and conviviality. Others in retail outlets will follow. Banks will increasingly be regarded as stuffy if they do not follow suit. Those whose work does not involve contact with the general public will begin to demand that their own workplace environments be kept at the same comfortable ambient temperatures enjoyed by workers in bars, shops and banks – and after that their own nakedness will follow in what can only be a matter of time.

Or could I possibly be wrong? Will the nakedness be incomplete? For example, will there not be those unable to resist the urge to wear the Old School Tie around the penis after the shirt has gone?

You must live in a far warmer climate than do I.

Our daily high temperatures are now only reaching 6 to 9C and if one is outside for any length of time, a thin insulating layer under one's jeans/pants is advisable for comfort.

Clothes that fit comfortably and allow for full range of movement are my own preference.

Nudity north of the 60th parallel does not seem likely to become the norm, as even our summers tend to be short and on the cool side. :bugeye:

In Texas during the summer, sunburn is a real concern.

And I find that pockets are quite useful.

    Extremely valid concerns.

I am of the pale skinned/freckled variant and I seek full cover and/or shade in the summer months to avoid burning.

An absence of pockets would be exceedingly problematical for most of the fellows I know, who base their purchase decisions largely upon the number of pockets any garment features.

The fact that nature has failed to provide us with pockets tends to suggest that we can get by without them, but an infusion of kangaroo genes might just do the trick.

The OP may never have gotten a sunburnt peter.

I would rather put on clothes than go under the knife...or let strangers see what I look like after I've been enormously obese and lost all of it.

Besides that, the twins are drifting away from my bulging pectorals like Antarctica leaving Pangaea...that's...pretty odd-looking...would also have to be fixed before any getting nekkid...and a distinct lack of genital ambiguity that I'd rather not show off...scars, stretchmarks...nobody really wants to see it, and I'd have to be taken in like a secondhand suit before they would.

    Besides all that, sunburnt nips?

I think I will stick to my clothes, thanks.

Other what's been said, there tend to be a lot of self-conscious people. If you think fat kids get picked on in school now, imagine what would happen if all the mean-spirited little kids had to be disgusted by their rolls all day everyday. You have to think that the adults, though they may be more polite and respectful, still wouldn't always be able to hide their disgust. And think about how much it would affect average-looking teenage girls with low self-esteem. How about the pride of men with small penises. And tribal women with big breasts are generally NOT very attractive. Their unsymmetrical, hanging, utter-like breasts in my opinion are kind of animal-like in comparison to the perky, bra-trained breasts that come with civilization. Think of this... what does a man do if he gets hard? Also, shoes would be a concern. I have some of the more callous-ridden feet of people I know and it still gives me very bad blisters if I decide to run on hot pavement or gravel at any temperature. Not to mention how nasty feet already get, even with socks and shoes. No more trenchfoot I guess, but that's never really been much of a problem. What about hookworms? Also, it's kind of disgusting to think that we could ever get to the point of luxury you describe. I think I'd actually be quite upset about it.

Good comment on the health concerns of walking barefoot. Let's not forget Plantar's warts as well as the concerns of those dealing with incontinence.

While I am of the opinion that much of North American society has serious problems with the display of skin, especially by women, clothing nonetheless performs a wide variety of functions.

My attitudes toward clothing may well be the result of a conservative upbringing and residing in a colder climate.

A little bit left to the imagination is by far more attractive in my opinion.
