Rest in Peace... may not have liked your 'tude or business strategy, but damn if you weren't a visionary!

That's a damn shame. He truly was an innovator, and definitely had a major influence on our modern society.

In the eyes of many, Apple WAS Steve Jobs.

The apple with the bite taken out of it will ever invoke the name of the company and the man who founded it.

    Boundless

As a friend and I used to say, "Fucking Steve!"

    Good night, sweet prince.

    I raise a glass. And a pipe.

The industry won't have Steve to follow around anymore.

A small garage and a small idea and a small business loan is all he started with.
With this he put the multitudes to work. He was the true job creator. This is the model.

"The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented." - President Obama

That was very well said, and literally true in my case. I'm on my IPAD right now.

It's certainly a sad day for his friends, family and those in his company. I am struck though by how many people in the press and online who don't draw a line between Jobs and Apple. You'd think Jobs invented the iPod, iPhone and iPad with his own two hands, rather than employing teams of engineers and software developers. He was more of an Edison, though, certainly smart, and he certainly did have his own accomplishments, but he was also the front man for inventions that many people had a hand in producing (many people who worked for his company).

There is no reason to think Apple won't continue to innovate just because Jobs will no longer be at the helm. (In fact, Apple's products may benefit from no longer having his personal preferences driving some of the features...as his dislike of Adobe Flash prevented Apple from providing support for it.)

Rest in peace to the man, but there is no reason to think Apple has gone with him.

I was shocked when I heard that on the news today. I don't know why, everyone knew he was dying. Its just so sad since he was young and had so much more to offer.
The world is a lesser place without him.

    Maybe not.
Maybe one day businesses will go back to wanting to be the best, and serve the public, making good money into the bargain.
There used to be hundreds of US businesses like that.

    RIP Steve Jobs.

The stock prices of the company historically have reflected the presence or temporary absence of Steve Jobs at the helm.

Of course he had a team of professionals and I would expect that he has left this company with a vision of future potential.

I'm sure he added value to the company as it's CEO, so changing leaders means you now need to evaluate the leadership of the "new guy" and that uncertainty leads to a reduction in stock price. One press account I just saw on my local news last night referred to Jobs as the "inventor of the iPhone and iPad."

People made the same sort of mistake with Edison (though obviously both men fostered the atmosphere were the public is prone to that sort of mistake).
