good question. i don't know why either but people have been saying "the end is near" for the last 5,000 years or so. us dumb ol' humans always manage to side step the calamity though.

I guess these diverse strategies indicate the ways in which humanity adapts its emotions to the knowledge.
I've heard there is alot of people who believe the end is near because of some sort of sign. Like 11-11, 2012. They want to be prepared and possibly prevent it. But I believe the mayans were preparing for a ceslestrial event. One that might open up a door way. They calculated this event using observation of stars and planets. Than they just started advances like star and celestrial calender. I don't believe the end was near. The one taking all the time to do this must of just stopped. guessing. I think people are looking at prophecy and comparing with events thats played out in history. Once they find something, it confirms their belief and helps them to allow religion and technology to go hand in hand. I heard its violent out there. We just recently had a close call.
