I was reading about folk remedies for wart removal, some were almost pseudo science in nature. For example taking a bowl of clear water outside during a full moon and washing the wart with moon light.
And one person told how when he was a kid his mother took him to see an old woman. She cut an apple into four pieces and rubbed his warts with the four quarters and he was told to take them home and bury them in the four corners of the back yard.
Apparently, the warts disappeared in a week.

On a more plausible level one of the most common methods is to cut a piece of banana skin and tape it onto the wart for a week. It apparently dries out the wart and you can sand it off with a pumice stone.
I’ve heard of sap from various plants working like milk weed and dandelion sap, which I actually tried as a kid I can’t remember if it worked but the wart went away.

The normal method of removal is to burn or freeze the warts off, but could some of these more pharmacological folk methods be legitimate?
Moreover, what bizarre wart removal methods have you heard about?

I used vitamin c -used a band-aid to tape a wetted tablet to the wart for a few days, then got tired of waiting for it to fall out and cut the soggy mess out with the tip of an exacto.
Acid makes the wart tissue get soft, but not the surrounding skin.

    I found this:
    Duct Tape Wart Removal

A person should apply gray (original) duct tape so that it completely covers the wart (not covering the skin around the wart), and leave it in place for six days. Remove the tape and then soak the affected area in warm water and then scrub with an emery board or pumice stone. Then put another piece of duct tape on the wart and repeat the process. After two months the wart should have disappeared.

One technique that I discovered was to band-aid a piece of an asperin directly on top of the wart and leave covered overnight. Asperin is 2-acetoxybenzoic acid, with this common medical acid able to kill warts overnight.

When you take the bandaid off the wart, the asperin will have dissolved into the wart and the surrounding skin. The surrounding skin and wart will look white like the skin is dead. Within a few hours, the circulation will return to the skin, while the wart does not recover. Don't leave the asperin on the healthy skin longer than overnight, since it can acid burn the skin.

This idea came to me by making note that some over the counter wart remedies are similar in composition to simple asperin, with asperin very cheap.

I pushed a wart out with a knife. It was disgusting too. i pried it from the base with a dull knife and it was almost perfectly round. At the base were roots going into individual pores. It was so long ago (over 10 years) i dont remember much more than that. Although i did first use some over the counter remover fluid which helped in the removal. Have not had one since then.

I cant see duct taped being effective.

I used apple vinegar on a cotton taped to my foot (which had a wart). I think it depends on where the wart is and if you don't want a scar on how you remove it. I did that for a week and it turned black. But, didn't go away. So, I bought salicylic acid (which is aspirin) and put a little on each day and it slowly went away after 6 weeks or so of torment.

God I hate warts. I also hate people who refuse to do the right thing and get rid of them! Walking viral infestations.....

Actually I had a very huge wart on my big toe once, it stayed for over a year. They froze it, etc. but it never would leave me. I then learned abit more about it and realized it was caused not by bacteria but a virus, and once that knowledge was mine I knew precisely how to fight back ---> echinacea. I began taking a standard dosage and within a few days I noticed it shrinking, then it was gone a few more days later. So basically you need to fight back using the immune system not anything else :L

I want to mention topical Apple Cider Vinegar only caused the wart to spread more, I have no idea why.

Duck tape works to remove MOST of the wart but the virus is still present so I never got rid of the damn thing, u need to fight back with immune herbs

Interesting. I had not used the suggested remedy, merely did some research and tossed it in as an alternative to show support for this thread, warts being a common problem at some stage in the lives of many.

In high-school, I once forgot my runners and the battle-axe gym teacher forced me to take class barefoot. I very soon came down with plantar warts which multiplied rapidly and were excruciating. Two trips to the doctor, where he applied a freezing liquid three weeks apart was just not helping, so I bought some Compound W, Dettol, Band-aids and a package of razor blades and did precisely what the doctor did only twice a day, applying the liquid morning and night and then gently scraping away the dead tissue prior to each application. Lots of soaking in hot water with disinfectant and careful disposal of all items used to prevent spread. The very core of those nasty things was the consistency of thick paste with gritty bits in it, but once that matter was thoroughly soaked out of the warts the skin healed and my foot recovered completely. I did not mention this earlier thinking it might be too graphic for some.

It behooves us all to learn to take care of ourselves because many conditions require persistent care to address and the medical system is set up more to deal with trauma and emergency, not lifestyle disease which is predominant these days.

So, you have some understanding of the difference between bacteria, viruses and how to mitigate conditions caused by them, darksidZz? Do you also pay attention to diet and nutrition? Just curious.....

I've seen warts removed by horsehair - there is no known scientific basis for this and I have NO IDEA why horsehair, but it worked. I assume tying horsehair around the wart might cut off blood supply and "starve" the wart. It does fall off though.

It's more likely that you are introducing alien cell structures to the surface area, alien as in the wart virus isn't compatible with. I couldn't say however if it's effective, it's just one of those weird and wonderful things that people somehow dream up.

salicylic acid is the active ingredient in the brand "Bazuka", the active substance can actually be found in Willow Tree Bark, so perhaps lashing a piece of willow to the area would be just as effective. (Incidentally Willow bark is also used in Aspirin, Which is why it is effective)

Rub a potato on it and bury it in your backyard.

just do what the doctors do, get a can of ice spray and spray it directly on the wart (put a bandaid around the wart to protect the rest of the skin if you cant aim at just the wart) until the wart frezzes

That's how you can tell if you've gotten all the wart tissue out, there's little black seedlike things in it.

Any kind of acid makes the wart tissue soggy and not the surrounding skin.

I have successfully used the sap of a plant to remove a wart:

    Good point.

I had one. The remedies from the pharmacy didn't work, so I had it removed surgically - twice, because it grew again, and the second time, they cut out so much flesh that the wound required three stiches. After that, the wart didn't grow back.

i had one of them when i was little and i had to put this stuff on it which was so necrotic that i had to cut a fabric bandaid to go around the wart, then put the stuff on, then cover it. Then i had to have the dead skin cut off and then more of this stuff ect

When my daughter was 9 she had at least 7 of them on her foot and toes. It was hell holding her down while they froze them off. :bawl:
They never came back though. WHEW.
