A number of subforums are currently without a dedicated moderator.

If you think you have what it takes to moderate one of the subforums listed below, please post your interest in this thread, or send a PM to me to let me know.

Please let us know your "qualifications" to moderate a subforum, such as your record of posting in it and any special expertise you have. Also, please tell us why you would be interested in signing on as a moderator of sciforums. And, if you like, you could outline what you think your approach would be to moderating posts in your subforum, if appointed.

I'll let this thread run for a week. Depending on the number of people who are interested, the current moderator group may simply decide to appoint some of the applicants, or we may put the matter to some kind of public vote.

We will not necessarily fill all or any positions. It will depend on the quality of the applicants. Obviously, we will bear in mind your prior posting history in general on sciforums in making any decisions regarding appointments.

The following subforums could potentially do with an extra moderator:

    Human Science
    Astronomy
    Physics & Math
    Comparative Religion
    Intelligence & Machines
    Architecture
    General Philosophy
    Religion
    History
    Free Thoughts
    Sci-fi and Fantasy
    Parapsychology
    Pseudoscience

This is not necessarily an exhaustive list.

Please only post your OWN interest in this thread. Do NOT nominate other people who you think may be suitable.

I would very much like to mod Pseudoscience. I have extensive experience in dealing with woo of all varieties, and have a reasonable temperament along with a consistent posting history for 4 years.

I would like to claim immunity.

I only have moderate moderating skills, so I'd probably get voted out. Or maybe not voted in.
Plus, I think the club fees are just bloody well horrendous.

lol Virtually every moderator also has mod rights in "About the members". So if there is one subforum that doesn't need an additional mod it's "About the members".

I have seen him online perhaps a hand full of times.

Here's a list of all the moderators, super moderators and admins. It also says what subforums they moderate.

I could moderate in Parapsychology and/or Pseudoscience, since I have a long and vast expererience in most known phenomenas in the area(s). Such as working as a psychic for many years and arguing with "real" scientists regarding the subjects validity. And I have also studied philosophy and psychology on an academic level (university). Sure I got a D on one stupid report, but I was distracted by dirty phonecalls at the time.
But, how much time will it take and will it be worthy the effort in magnificent glory and power? ( Cash will do fine.)

I could moderate Astronomy, but I'm not really a very nice guy and I don't tolerate stupidity well.

I wouldn't mind being a moderator in sci-fi and fantasy... more than anything the biggest complaint I have about that forum is how quickly it can turn from a level headed discussion into a "my *insert item here* is bigger than yours!" "nuh huh!" whine fest with no substantiated backing whatsoever.

As far as moderation style... I'd simply step back from the arguments at hand and think "what would a non-nerd think about this..." and go from there. After all, for a forum like that, putting your personal bias aside is an absolute must!

*EDIT* Oh, as far as qualifications - well, I feel I can maintain a position of objectiveness, plus I have been put into administrative positions both in game servers (such as Half Life's Counter Strike, Natural Selection, and a Team Fortress Classic) and in terms of account management (managing the physical server itself via FTP access and root folder access, among other things) so I feel I'm trustworthy and level-headed enough to not go on a "RAGH I DON'T LIKE YOU BAN!" spree

OMG! You're second one I'm seconding.
Kit, you'd make a brilliant mod for SF&F.

You missed some of your qualifications: rational, fair (to a fault sometimes), sense of humour and definitely balanced.

PS I'm not in love with you.
