Yes, but the Aussie law is that you have to be genetically or physically intersexed.
Not just intersexed in the head.

So what I'm saying is it's still leaves a lot to be desired, still requires someone else to determine who you are.

Small step in the right direction, but I was really disappointed, I'm sure you can see why? Since I'm sort of attempting to get people to recognize that there might actually be other options than woman and man?

Seems like they wrote the law with care to keep transgender androgynes like me excluded...and we are all over the place...not that many of us, but we're here, although neither here nor there...

I would have to actually go through the legislation to determine what limitations there are on that. I could see a doctor putting "x" on a form for psycological reasons unless it actually specificlly forbids it.

I guess what they are trying to aviod is it being used as a cope out for people opressing transgender people insted of calling a gender male sex female person Mr as they are surposed to they call them X. Thats not fair on them.

Now if your psycologically androginious, thats not the same as being transgender.

Oh and BTW the first thing i thought of when i read this:

was medical certificates (for sick leave). About 6 months ago i got gastro so bad i couldnt move off the toilet and i was vomiting bile constantly. Anyway i rang my boss and his comment was "you have to come to work unless you can get a medical certificate". I couldnt actually get into any of 3 different doctors i tried. I was tempted to go to work and vomit all over my boss and see if THAT was enough proof for him

Medical dominance IS a pain in the ass but for something like this it shouldnt be a huge problem. Sure it might ike you a little but it shouldnt be that hard to work around and once your passport and birth certificate are changed to reflect that you should have no further problems

    from the OP:

So even if I was Aussie, I could not announce I was X, I stil have to be binary.

yes but your not transgender are you? your andrognious. As i said it depends how the law is written and then interpreted. If it defiens you as transgender then yes that would be an issue, if it defined you as psycologically intersex then you could chose x.

I havent read the law and as its only brand new there are no judicial interpritations to go on either.

chimpkin i cant answer that. as i said you would have to sit down with a doctor and work it out between you but you would have to read the legislation first

This is retarded. You are either born with a penis, or a vagina. If you have both go with the dominant of the two. If your penis and your vagina inter mingle... then lucky you.

Try showing up for your new job in Iran as an X.
In fact, try turning up as an x anywhere.
They'd interview you just to break up the day.
    What a dopey idea.

Some of us Eurasians have some Neanderthal genes. Can we have an N in our passports?
I hope I have some. I wanna be a Neanderthal.

Seriously, I friggin' can't stand Homo Sapiens and don't want to be associated with them.

I can't stand Homo Sapien men and their competitive urge to murder each other,
and I can't stand Homo Sapien women and their competitive urge to attract said disgusting monkeys.
Oh, and their squabbling progeny. Oh.
    Vile. Vile. Vile.

Yes but a small penis could be a big clitoris, and vice versa.
Try explaining that at Tehran airport.

I'm not sure it will be fun to show up with a shaven face, a tenor voice, and an F on my driver's license...when I get there I'll let you know how that turns out...not sure why I feel the need to...I just do.

chimpkin to be honest i thought the same thing when i herd about this. Its fine in Australia (where discrimination is a criminal offence) and NZ and the UK and probably the US and Canada but in some other countries i would have thought it would actually be a problem

    @Chimpkin.
Best for you to just avoid Tehran airport completely.

Btw. Just how many psychological and other problems do you have?
It seems to me that they could open a medical training hospital with you as the sole patient.

This is not so much a "I need to fix this" problem, as a "I need to reconcile this bit of me with society," problem.
Think of what it was like to be gay before the gay rights movement, only there's less androgynes.
My gender identity is different from my depression and trauma reaction, those cause me intense distress.
    This isn't disordered. Just different.
I've met plenty of people with more screws loose than myself. I just talk about them.
Most people don't talk about mental issues or gender issues, they just have them...silently...quietly. In the corner. Ashamed of themselves.
I guess I'd rather not cower in fear and self-loathing, if I can help it?
Or maybe I'm just American and annoyingly gauche about things...

I think it would be best for me to avoid the Middle East entirely, also probably anyplace to the right politically of the West Coast or Northeast of the USA...Since I live in such a place this may well become a problem....

I think the countries that would have no respect for a person with an X, would probably have little respect for a female. Why would an X go there?

and I don't like the X. Its not 'transgender' or 'intersexed' any more. Its X. I think of that and teh holocaust identification stars comes to mind.

Worst place for you outside the Middle East would probably be Nigeria.
They might think you were gay, and sentence you to death, or even a witch, and sentence you to death.
The subtleties of androgynicity would probably be lost in translation, and they would just say
    "He is a weetch!"

In Zimbabwe, they'd send in the Witch Cleanser.
    see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR0ShX4HpWU&feature=fvsr

The Zimbabwe system is the best. Nigerians please take note.
You admit to being a witch and casting spells.
The fact that you know you haven't done anything of the kind is not a problem, because you can be a witch and not know it.
Then the Witch Cleanser arrives, suitably dressed,
and cleans out those bad old witchy bits.
After that they have a big party.

You could try moving to San Francisco.
Put some flowers in your hair and all that.
No one would bat an eyelid.

If it was me it would have been "other". Technicaly x IS female

as for respect i donk know, how much respect for women does the deep south of the US have where they will kill someone for being gay.

Actually the best place to go would be japan because they have a whole andrognous subculture
