Not sure were this goes!:shrug: I've had most my life wild and domesticated cats and dogs. I know only that of domestic animals that leave behind bodies without eatting them. But usually its left as a clawed or chewed up animal. These were very strange presents left in my yard. The rats, several of them have only the neck part missing and one has a big chunk taken out of its head. The birds had only their necks muscles missing. What kind of animal does this?
Cats enjoy the kill and bringing back the body to those it likes. It shows that perhaps a cat that you befriended is now repayng your kindness with the only gifts it knows how to give.:shrug:
I've had 24 cats at one time when I was little. I've had cats all my life and not one of my presents had a chunk taken out of its head like this!:shrug: Dogs will break their necks and bite them up, so will cats. But the neck is strangely stripped if you have a closer look. It came across as weird. That and the amount of dead bodies laying around. Like they were used as a food source, but if they were, why is so much meat wasted? Could it be a posseum or skunk attack? look at the size of the bite mark! or a large canine that strips necks and bites into brain.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I just had an idea! Could the neck injuries be consistant with a mouse trap? Could someone being dumping rats in my yard and than a large animal bit its head?
LOL, really? A dead animal conspiracy? My cat leaves me dead things all the time. Nothing like walking out of the bedroom in the middle of the night and stepping on a mangled dead mouse. Animals are as unique as people and don't all kill the exact same way.
we have recently gotten some neighbors cats over here! But they don't leave me any presents.:shrug: this happened a while back! maybe someone put the rats there for bait! something to lure the cats here, thinking I'll keep them around because I have cats.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Facts! I'm not a child! I'm not a simpleton! I'm familiar with wild animals as well as domesticated animals! I'm not easily scared, maybe startled by very loud sudden noises, but noo not scared. I'm not out for attention, or pulling a prank. I'm only here for answers. You see , I'm very familiar of how animals will carry their prey by the neck in their mouths, leaving wounds! But this is like the muscle is removed to the bone on one side. Do you think this is by a animal or by other?
Skunks frequently remove the head and neck. And then chow down on the heart, lungs, etc. Their favorite snack seems to be young kittens though. Seriously. One of the main causes of death for cats living outdoors on a farm.
umm do you have foxes where ever you live? We lost all our chickens over 2 nights (at the time i think 12 of them) and all the foxes took were the head and then just left the bodies there
BTW are you talking about posseums (ie Australian natives which exist now in NZ and up through asia) or Opossums (which come from the US) Because im almost possitive that posseums do not hunt or eat meat, they are fruit eatters
Housecats do this...they kill for fun, then have a random nibble and lose interest. It's probably just one particular cat that likes to kill rats, chew up the neck, and leave them. Cats are weird, haven't you noticed?
Opossums are omnivorous, they eat a lot of insects and such like crickets, worms, cicadas, and other critters.
We do have large racoons around the place and they have eatten the cats around here. They will bite down and break bones while killing cats. Its horrible! But they have to eat too! So given the responses its most likely an animal. Thanks for the replies!
