The approval of the ‘Prawer Plan’ concerning Bedouins in the Negev desert demonstrates that Israel’s principle of divide and rule, which has been perfected in the West Bank and Gaza, also applies to citizens of Israel living inside 1948 boundaries.

Perhaps the most violent component of Israel’s control over non-Jewish inhabitants since the founding of the state has been the (unequal) distribution and allocation of resources. In Area C of the West Bank, the area designated for full Israeli military and civilian control by the Oslo accords which makes up the majority of land in the occupied territories, Israel has demonstrated its ability to control the Palestinians of the West Bank through the allocation of resources such as water, electricity and building permits. In the West Bank village of Susya, for example, Palestinians are forced to purchase water at rates close to 1000 times higher than an Israeli living in Tel Aviv. Their wells are destroyed by Israel’s civilian administration due to lack of permits which are almost impossible to obtain and many living structures are deemed illegally built by Israel and subject to demolition.

The deprivation of resources leaves Palestinians helpless in the face of bureaucratic measures which even Kafka could not have changed. The point of this system is clear, make Palestinian life in area C villages so unbearable that they their only option is to move into cities in Area A, under Palestinian Authority control. The unclaimed land is then expropriated by Israel using out of date Ottoman laws. This amounts to an effective use of the classic colonial practice of divide and rule.

Interestingly, this is not just happening to West Bank Palestinians. Something similar is taking place to non-Jewish citizens inside Israeli territory. This morning, Israel authorized the controversial “Prawer Plan” concerning the resettlement of Bedouins in the Negev Desert.

Authored by Ehud Prawer, head of the Policy Planning Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, the report contradicts an earlier report on how to resolve settlement issues in the Negev desert. The first report, penned by former Justice Eliezer Goldberg, demanded that Israel make every attempt to respect Bedouins living in the Negev, noting in particular the need to allow them to remain in their villages and homes.

The Prawer report, which has been criticized by the Israeli civil liberties outfit, the Association of Civil Rights in Israel, has proposed that as many as 30,000 Bedouins be removed from their homes and villages, against their will and for little reason. Removal has been approved by the government according to a report in today’s edition of Haaretz (Hebrew).

The decision to evacuate as many as 30,000 Bedouins and relocate them to large Bedouin towns such as Rahat has been called by some a “declaration of war on the Bedouin.” It is actually a long time coming if the experience of the Bedouin village of al Arakib is any indication. The village has been destroyed almost 30 times by Israel in an effort to make way for a new Jewish National Fund forest in its place.

During the height of the hopeful J14 tent protests this summer, demands for better Bedouin rights could be heard filling conversations even in the heart of Tel Aviv’s Rothschild boulevard tent encampment. However, hope has taken a backseat in recent days as many of the tent protesters’ demands for Bedouin rights have been dropped, ignored or simply disappeared.

im a little cautious on this one, oviously the destruction in occupied land is illegal but every goverment in the world has some form of "compulsery aquestition" designed to be used for major infustructure (for instance airports, seaports, freeways, rail ect). Now im not saying that IS whats happerning but it is one possibility. Need more infomation

It's too bad Palestinians couldn't convert en mass to Judaism or Christianity. I have to wonder if millions of Palestinian Christians were treated this way, if Americans and Europeans must not be a LOT more sympathetic. Or even Buddhism. That could be interesting. Rip down the Temple/Dome and build a HUGE statue of Buddha. Now, that would get some attention.

Just how much space does Israel need? I visited there for five weeks last year, there is a lot of open land only sparsely populated in the northern half of the country.

Tell me which "race" you think was being impinged against Asguard. Or where you talking out your ass?

    Go on now, do tell.

It's rich considering the utter decimation that has occurred to another Bedouin culture - the one you're destroying: Aboriginal Culture. You doing anything for the Bedouins of Australia Asguard? Or are you a racist? See, me, I was the personal tutor (free of charge) to the only Aboriginal in USYD medical program. I wonder Asguard, was I destroying her culture by encouraging her to stay and get her MD. Because many many times she said the whole educational system of "White Australians" was foreign to her way of thinking. But, she got through.

I don't believe in racism because I don't believe in race. But, by your way of thinking, an Aboriginal learning to do Australian Medicine was "racism" and Aboriginals should stay in the stoneage and not change to be a part of Australian society.

See, how do you like it when someone puts words in your mouth? Silly isn't it?

As to the Palestinians the evidence suggests that many were Jews only a few generations ago. Due to the second class status Jews had to endure, many converted to Islam. Now the shoe's on the other foot. Ying and Yang. What comes around goes around. Secondly, Islam is a form of Christianity. It's not much different. If you go back far, many were Christians who converted to a new type of Christianity: Islam.

Funny enough, according to you to do so is racist and as such define Mohammad as a huge racist. Given this is exactly what Islamic lore suggests happened. Old polytheism (the traditional religion and culture of the "Arabs") was forced aside, destroyed and gave way as a new one was forged, ala Islam. So, we agree on something afterall

And if Aboriginals wanted to return to their "traditional" way of life and wanted all White Australians to leave, well, that doesn't matter they're just Aboriginals "Right Asguard"?

Yeah, your arguments know no bounds :bugeye:

So, tell me which "race" you think was being impinged against or where you talking out your ass?

Israel approves plan to uproot 30,000 Bedouin. Oh, really? Who is "Israel"? Do Israeli Muslim Citizens approve plans to uproot 30K Bedouin? I don't think so. IOWs, the problem IS religion. THAT is the problem. Don't do something about it and you are not going to do a god damn thing to address the problem. As long as people maintain such asinine beliefs like: Sky Daddy loves me more, Sky Daddy gave me the special land, Sky Daddy gave me the special magic book, then there will be NO solution. None. Zilch. Zero.

Which is why there won't be.

So, opponents of this plan favor an apartheid like separation between the Bedouins and the rest of the country?

In this case let me be clear: I see ZERO difference between Fundamental Islam and Fundamental Judaism as well as Fundamental Christianity (or even Mormonism). Funny enough, fundamental Islam could be considered a form of Christianity, which itself is a form Judaism. Other than the number or people who bought into the respective bullshit. If 900 million people were FLDS, they'd be the ones coping the shit. Numbers make a difference.

As for Israel and Palestine, I've stated many times, nothing is going to change for the better and things are only going to get worse. This thread illustrates that. Until both people can see past their stupid bronze age religious bullcrap, they'll continue to kill one another over it.

They will see past it, maybe 80-120 years from now. The time I think it will take for their religious non-sense to sink into the blackest pits of history.

You mean taking them from their homes and relocating them to a Bedouin town is a form of forced assimilation? In that case shouldn't Israel start by uprooting European Jews and sending them back to Poland or Russia or wherever they came from rather than pandering to their desires to disinter old language and myths and consecrate dead pigs as martyrs? I'm all for assimilation but if the Israelis care so much for the future of Bedouins how is it that they supply them with no municipal amenities and instead spend money on demolishing their villages over 30 times?

And if its illegal settlements that bother them, there are 600,000 Jews in illegal settlements receiving all the municipal amenities the Bedouins are denied. They might consider uprooting them and sending them to be assimilated rather than building Jewish only settlements behind apartheid walls.

I wonder, how will the Hassidic community in Brooklyn or the Amish in Pennsylvania or the Mormons in Utah respond to such forced assimilation?

They are attempting to create "facts on the ground" in Area C and East Jerusalem in anticipation of the Palestinian bid for statehood

Take what you want, says the Lord. And pay for it. They'll be lucky if they are left with what was [mistakenly] given to them in 1948

Thats a valid question. Except that its not "state" land - its Bedouin land by Ottoman laws. But the Israelis only follow the Ottoman laws when they grab the lands and not when it gives title to non-Jews

i.e. whats mine is mine and whats yours is also mine

Even when the lands are registered in the names of the Bedouins the Israelis or rather the Jewish Israelis [since the Bedouin are also supposedly Israeli citizens] steal them.

Basically, the issue is that the Jewish state only recognises those Ottoman laws which put Palestinian lands in their hands and ignore all titles which retain the lands in Palestinian hands

In other words they are creating another Gaza within Israel, where they can dump non-Jews after demolishing their homes and stealing their lands.

They are spending 6.8 billion dollars to bring them into the 21st century and clarify issues of land ownership, what's wrong with that? The Bedouins were a nomadic people, so they shouldn't care about moving.

Then why not use that money to provide them with housing and municipal amenities where they are? And if they must uproot someone, there are plenty of illegal Jewish settlements that could be compensated with for that kind of moolah

In fact, why not move the illegal Jewish settlers to the Bedouin town? Now that would really bring those settlers into the present century instead of living in prehistoric biblical times - and even then Palestine was never made up of "Jews Only" settlements.

If one were to build all new housing for that many people, you would have to do it in a coordinated way, which means, in a new location.

I wonder what the "Bedouins" think about the idea of getting cheap new housing. In AU the government builds cheap new housing for Aboriginals in the outback and from people I've spoken to it's horrid squalor. You have people living in houses, which require constant maintenance, who do not have a culture of living in houses and so the houses become infested with roaches, lice etc... then the health of the individuals living in the houses goes to hell. The the community goes to hell. Everyone ends up on welfare and the piss and all you have to show for it is the utter destruction of another community of people who probably didn't ask for any help in the first place (or at least didn't know what they were in for).

Why not just leave people alone? Maybe they're Bedouin for a reason?
