What’s the Worst Big Budget Film?

Ishtar

Ishtar is a 1987 American comedy film directed by Elaine May and starring Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman as "Rogers and Clarke" – a duo of incredibly untalented lounge singers who travel to Morocco looking for work, and stumble into a four-party Cold War standoff.

It also starred Isabelle Adjani and Charles Grodin and was shot by Vittorio Storaro. The songs in the film were written by Paul Williams, with additional input from Hoffman and May.

The motion picture's production, carried out on location in Morocco and in New York City, drew media attention before its release due to its lavish budget and cost overruns, even given its well-paid stars. May and many of the others involved with the project, particularly Beatty, clashed regularly to the point that longstanding friendships suffered. A change in studio management during the post-production phase also led to interpersonal difficulties that affected the film.

The film was a notorious failure at the box office and received horrible reviews, with more expected of the big-name stars involved in it than they managed to deliver on screen.

Nice list, I only counted about 5 that I haven't seen on it. But I'm somewhat confused as to why with that list of likes you could have disliked the movies in your dislike list. I find that really strange. But like you said it's probably mostly a super hero thing, but I did notice some on your like list, so still confused.

I didn't see " The Post Man on that list . You better go watch that one again with an open mind . This time think about the power of 8 when you do .
Your O.K. thou cause you got " A river runs though it on your list and that baby makes you the Greatest . This will get you good . The guy that wrote that book . I got his best friend Klu Klux Klan card in me desk . Yeah is funny . Arnold Holt is his name and yeah he was a Clans Man . Can you believe that I would have that evidence like that in my possession . I kept it cause I thought it historical and I had never seen a clans man card . Yeah he had a signed copy of the book that said " To my best friend Arnold . I bet the author of a River runs through us was a clans man too if they was best buds . Oh shit oh dear . The things you can learn when people die . I cleaned out his trailer . Arnold"s silly not the the other guy . Actually it was Stella's Trailer . She be Me step Daughters Aunt that Died a few years back . Arnold was her Husband who had died several years before that . Stella got a bad case of Alzheimer and ended up in the rest Home and I got the dirty job of cleaning up the trailer so it was some what fit to be sold . So Nasty little Me kept the Clan Card just for the hell of it cause I already knew he was best buds wid the author of that book . Was that bad ? I didn't think so cause I got evidence to back up Me claim . THE Card

 

I don't have an issue with superhero stories, per se. I just like some and dislike others. I pretty much have hated every single Marvel movie with a few notable exceptions.

And, hey, "A River Runs Through It" could have been written by Rudolph Hess and I'd still love it. It was a great movie.

 

I went through my Netflix list of saved DVD's, most are unrelesed movies with a rating of 4 or 5 stars. If you see anyting that looks old, it's a new release of an old movie. Also included 3 TV series I like a lot. For all in the below list Netflix availability is still unknown. If any of you would like to see the Netflix write up of any movie let me know and I'll post it.

Whoops, I missed that one. I know your pain, you have my deepest sympathies.

Actually, the plot is more like: "Aliens wipe out all of Earth's defenses in 8 minutes, then take 1000 years to erect a giant dome over Denver, then a caveman gets put inside an education machine, then derp derp derpity derpadoo... ancient hidden Harrier jets drive the aliens out, caveman H-bomb blows up entire alien homeworld, derp derp... all humanity converts to Scientology, derp... happily ever after."

Overall an excellent and entertaining film if you're already in a UFO cult and jacked up on so much coke that you can't feel your own face.

 

I especially liked the caveman gold mining skills

Titanic.

 

Insipid endings seem to be a disappointing factor of some movies, I'd be interested to know who liked the original release version of Bladerunner better then the Directors Cut and why.
To be honest I first off didn't mind the Chandler style narration of the first release but the ending was out of context to the rest of the film. The directors cut was much better.

As for the Matrix's 2 and 3, problem is that they joined with the machines in the end. It felt like they were fighting a temporary evil (Agent Smith) and ignoring their bigger problem (the machines). As a result, the ending was unsatisfying. you've built up the machines as the bad guy the whole time and then you just ignore them.

I think I'm going to re-watch these films to see if I still feel the same way.

What's your opinion of "Howls Moving Castle"?

 

Just take 'Nikita'/'The Assassin'. The scene where Nikita is is the bathroom with the rifle was poignant and moving in the original. Not so in the remake, it seemed hollow.

 

Onto the list.

The 'Star Wars' prequels,... FFS, awful child fodder. And contradicting the originals. Total arse.

Spider~Man. Spoiled by bad CGI. He moved like a bendy toy.

Hulk, one Eric Bana is boring, and two, it was ruined by CGI.

Highlander 2 has been mentioned. I remember walking out of the cinema and thinking 'But, but, but', so many contradictions to the canon set down in the first, it was just plain wrong.

The Matrix sequels. WTF? I enjoyed the first one, then they crawled up their own behind, died, and went stinky.

Avatar. Totally stupid plot. I like Sci in my Sci Fi, this was Bull Fi.

The Costner Robin Hood movie. That stank for many reasons. Not least that Costner was in it.

 

I liked Titanic just like I liked Pearl Harbor, solely for the graphics. Unfortunately, new research of the wreckage suggests that the way it is depicted to break up in the movie, assumed correct at that time, is now not accurate.

 

Agree about remakes, it's starting to make me violent. They need to stop it with the remake shit.

 

Or do a better job.
