That will definitely be illegal in Canada.

Still, most threads have the property of having a title. If I were a lurker, I would hate to miss some good conversations simply because I assumed the title had something to do with the thread.

In the case of this thread, it would be difficult to make the claim of hijacking, for it is an introduction thread with no set topic, or at least that would be my opinion, though I am not a moderator at this forum.

Even unto titles, it is a literary device to select a title which will draw attention, and the title need only relate to the opening post loosely.

The opening post, however, needs to provide at least a premise to move forward from. I have observed some threads closed for lack of content in the opening post.

Lurker......? There be lurkers hereabouts? On what do you base this supposition?

Sorry, I'm horribly misusing lurker. I mean someone who searches for threads to join.

Your viewpoint is equivalent. I just find it childish and sad that due to an intentional misspelling of LDS, there are people encouraging a psychologically addictive drug in a thread specifically about a new member (and what the heck's with Canada? :bugeye:

    That's what I think too.

    Hello by the way.
Why don't you start your spring battery thread?
ie a thread with a subject.

Tip. Perhaps you might try to fit in with the way things are done around here
instead of trying to run things your own way after 14 posts.

I'm sorry for not making a thread as soon as you wanted to and disagreeing with what I see as childish behavior. Why are you attacking me? Please attack the argument. So much for the warm welcome. I'm also sorry if it sounds like I'm attacking someone too.

I am going to log off now, because I am close to losing my temper.

    This is spamming.

You are pretending to open a thread in order to 1. Proselytise. 2. Get people to read another site's material. 3. Try to boss people about.

Hmmmm......not quite certain if your remark on my viewpoint is a plus or a minus, not that it matters.

I expect people search for threads to join because they would like to engage in a dialogue. Conversation styles are variable and I believe a number of the members are on medication for their health conditions and I would suggest that a few others may self prescribe.

Myself, am this contrary by nature, no substances added, original unit complete with tonsils and appendix. (Too much info, but I have to at least act a bit odd on occasion or the whackos may try to target me....

    What's your complaint with Canada?

    I'm a Cannuck, lol....

We are generally tolerant of idiosyncrasy as long as no harm is intended toward others.

    Good Morning Kremmen,

Now please compile a post with all the cark that forum members have dumped here.

Is there anything in the rules that speaks to the content of an introductory thread in the "About The Members" section of the forum?

Or a time limit by which they must start another thread? Mr. Mormon has barely been in attendance for 36 hours.

Why in blazes would he want to start a serious thread in light of some of the looney antics witnessed on some other, presumably, serious threads?

Just some questions that crossed my mind......

    1. and 2. I am being polite and responding to people who brought it up first. 3. Again your definition of a troll/spammer seems to be someone who openly disagrees. 0. I am pretending nothing. I have read that it is polite here to start a thread introducing myself before posting anywhere else. I had no idea what would happen after my first post.

Please don't get angry. I am only trying to defend myself when I am being attacked for using a forum for communication. If you disagree with the claim that I am being attacked instead of my argument, you are always free to explain why instead of losing your temper.

I've read the entire thread. I see no spamming here.

The "about the members" subforum permits more relaxed discussion when it comes to self-promotion, expression of personal opinions, etc. In fact, when one introduces one's self, it's almost part-in-parcel to engage in a bit of self promotion.

If Mormon were to have jumped into one of the other more rigid fora, then it might amount to spam, but here it just looks like casual conversation.

I see the new member thread has a lot early riser activity. I think we going for a new member posts record.

Did I hear someone mention dog piling on the new guy. Click on the link below.

    71 dogpile of death

But you are right, never start a topic until the timing is right for you. Never get mad, and focus what you say about what was said and not at the poster. But being human you might have a friendly slip when responding to the occasional rude poster. (not to worry though)

Also I think this is a Canadian forum, but I don't mind to much as I've run into people from all over the world here.

Hey, we could try for a new record! Unfortunately, that would probably necessitate actual trolling.

All that said, Mr.Mormon. . . It might be high-time for you to go ahead and post something substantial to one of the other threads. Lurking exclusively in your own introduction thread, without participating in the other nooks-and-crannies of this forum, does seem a bit odd.

    Happy posting!

I'm still getting around to the nanotube spring thread. I have to reread the research I did yesterday. And I'm in no hurry. And I'm not lurking here - I have instant email notification ftw.

I don't know about that, but we did have a very interesting thread on trolling, you can probably find it easy enough with a search.

As for a new record, we really need to know what the record is first and I have no idea. But I guess you may have your 20 posts in before you leave this thread and that will allow you to post smilies and links. Both of which are very handy for a lot of reasons.

I noticed that you said *Likes the above post*, I use a sort that shows me the most current post at the top. So for me it would have been the below post.
