NaOH would definitely blind you. Not a nice thing to have to do to another human, but better than being beaten to death.

A lady told me she was at a friend's house and used her friend's peroxide contact lens solution in her normal contact lens case. The special case that comes with the peroxide solution converts the peroxide into water, her normal case did not. So she inserted two peroxide soaked contacts. As you know, this burns like hell. But here's where it gets worse. Thinking that something must be on the contacts, she grabbed the bottle of peroxide and began squirting it directly into her eyes!

Get a big dog, like a rottweiler, one that isn't neutered.

 

From considerable experience with dogs, and a friend who used to breed Rottweilers, I would not suggest this as doing the breed any favors.

An aggressive animal in the custody of a person who from chimpkin's description would lack the ability to command the animal's respect, is a recipe for disaster, IMO.

Dogs have their place and purpose, and for defense and deterrent are frequently used, but I disagree with this being a good solution here, spidergoat.

 

I would have to disagree. I knew a rottweiler that a friend of mine owned, he was originally trained as a guard dog but proved unsuitable for some reason. It was huge, about 110 lbs, but he was an awesome dog. I was never afraid of him. I used to walk him in a very bad part of Washington DC where I was working and no one bothered me. The only issue I can see is that it needs lots of exercise, attention, and training.

The downside is if the man in question was living with or hanging around the lady, the dog might not be so loyal to her. But for protection from strangers, it would work.

 

You do not strike me as having the type of personality as the person that chimpkin is describing. For that reason, I have concerns that there could be a bad outcome for the dog. :bugeye:
