    another thing too.
this person could actually be an undercover cop prowling "battered women" sites looking for people that hit on "his dilemma".

    be careful chimpkin.

    This young lady...sigh.

You've heard of the concept of "learned helplessness?"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_helplessness

I have run all your ideas by the kiddo...and...nada. *headdesk*

Sadly, all the oven cleaner ideas in the world are not going to work here. I will have to keep inflating the self esteem. May require a large air compressor....

There isn't any chance that this lady is winding you round her little finger is there?
I'm a sucker for that too.

When I was 25 I fell hard for a 19 year old with beautiful turquoise hair and a wicked little smile...

She tore my heart out and did a little looney-dance on it.

    Never again!:runaway:

Question: why is she restricting herself to this one option of caustic chemicals??

I'd favor an electroshock weapon, myself. Especially for someone so enraged and determined that mace spray failed to keep him at bay.

Sir Thomas Wyatt had the same thing happen to him, 1500 and something.
He compares the fickleness of a woman to once tamed geese turned wild again.

    They Flee From Me
    BY SIR THOMAS WYATT

They flee from me that sometime did me seek
With naked foot, stalking in my chamber.
I have seen them gentle, tame, and meek,
That now are wild and do not remember
That sometime they put themself in danger
To take bread at my hand; and now they range,
Busily seeking with a continual change.

Thanked be fortune it hath been otherwise
Twenty times better; but once in special,
In thin array after a pleasant guise,
When her loose gown from her shoulders did fall,
    And she me caught in her arms long and small;
    Therewithall sweetly did me kiss
And softly said, “Dear heart, how like you this?”

It was no dream: I lay broad waking.
But all is turned thorough my gentleness
    Into a strange fashion of forsaking;
And I have leave to go of her goodness,
And she also, to use newfangleness.
But since that I so kindly am served
I would fain know what she hath deserved.

The woman he was writing about was Anne Boleyn.
Same old thing. Turquoise hair, sweet smile etc.
Eventually Henry VIII got tired of her philandering and chopped her head off.

A lady told me she was at a friend's house and used her friend's peroxide contact lens solution in her normal contact lens case. The special case that comes with the peroxide solution converts the peroxide into water, her normal case did not. So she inserted two peroxide soaked contacts. As you know, this burns like hell. But here's where it gets worse. Thinking that something must be on the contacts, she grabbed the bottle of peroxide and began squirting it directly into her eyes!

As to the OP, if she refuses to go to the police, how about one of these:

Sadly, I can't seem to get her to do anything, not spray, not gun, not zapper. Not even roll audio.
Like I said, I didn't realize I need to be even more basic, like... " You are worth being safe."

    ARGH.

If I could just loan out my righteous wrath to people who needed it...

Perhaps you could just give her a stun gun as a gift.

Get a big dog, like a rottweiler, one that isn't neutered.

From considerable experience with dogs, and a friend who used to breed Rottweilers, I would not suggest this as doing the breed any favors.

An aggressive animal in the custody of a person who from chimpkin's description would lack the ability to command the animal's respect, is a recipe for disaster, IMO.

Dogs have their place and purpose, and for defense and deterrent are frequently used, but I disagree with this being a good solution here, spidergoat.

I would have to disagree. I knew a rottweiler that a friend of mine owned, he was originally trained as a guard dog but proved unsuitable for some reason. It was huge, about 110 lbs, but he was an awesome dog. I was never afraid of him. I used to walk him in a very bad part of Washington DC where I was working and no one bothered me. The only issue I can see is that it needs lots of exercise, attention, and training.

The downside is if the man in question was living with or hanging around the lady, the dog might not be so loyal to her. But for protection from strangers, it would work.

You do not strike me as having the type of personality as the person that chimpkin is describing. For that reason, I have concerns that there could be a bad outcome for the dog. :bugeye:

This thread discusses the use of chemical weapons that may be illegal and which are intended to harm other human beings.

chimpkin: Please advice your friend to contact the police.
