Paul Revere's Clamato, or, Real American History

    Real American History

Um ... yeah. Sarah Palin on Paul Revere:

"He who warned, uh, the ... the British that they weren't gonna be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells and, um, by making sure that as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that, uh, we were gonna be secure and we were gonna be free ... and we were gonna be armed."

    (qtd. in Marikar)

At least she's playing to the NRA crowd.

The media chuckle of the day comes from Tabatha Southey of The Globe and Mail:

"This isn't a campaign bus," Ms. Palin explained. "This is a bus to be able to express to America how much we appreciate our foundation ..."

Well, I suppose if one were absolutely incapable of expressing that appreciation in sentences, some sort of automotive means might do. I have a lightweight truck with which I'm hoping to express my ambivalence toward Clamato juice.

I am literally so awash in potential punchlines, including some creative applications of the word "Clamato", that I don't know where to begin.

    So write your own.

Or just sit back and watch the Palin sideshow. It's a joke that seems to write itself.

I have never seen the liberals be so afraid of anyone, like they are afraid of Sarah Palin. Don't let their nervous laughter fool you. Here is the anatomy of their fear and why this strategy to appease the fear.

Say there were two kingdoms in fierce competition for power, like the Dems and Reps. Suddenly, in one of the kingdoms, a dingbat leader appears and starts to rise and gain influence. If she was a dingbat, in reality, what would you do in terms of strategy? You would let that dingbat rise to power since she will inevitably implode, causing major problems for your competition. You don't warn your competitor, telling them beware of the bing bat. It would be like the wooden horse of Troy getting inside you enemies fort, and then yelling to the Trojans watch for the horse.

The only reason a fierce, low morality competitor would pretend to warn their competition, is because the opposite is true. The fear among the nervous laughter of the liberal leadership, is Sarah Palin might actually do the opposite. They need to downgrade her, while pretending to help the enemy not implode; some republicans fells for this warning. Since when are the Dems so nice to the Reps? They needed to come up with a mirage trick by presenting narrow data sets, to create the illusion one word equals all words. Or one action implies all action. One hair out place means all hairs are not combed. It is a good trick but sort of old.

The next question is why so much fear, to the point of mean and spiteful irrationality; panic attack? Sarah Palin is a woman and liberals think their group should have a monopoly on women's issues. Palin can do all the liberal woman things (career) plus more than that, which makes her higher than their liberal woman standard. The fear is the loss of control over women, if this higher example of a woman gains too much power. There might be a migration of women to the other side.

What seems to prove this theory is the observation, that females have the worse reaction to Sarah Palin, even among the republicans. This usually means jealousy among women; the mean or ugly pick on the nice or pretty girl. She makes the liberal woman nervous, since their perceived perfection gets a swipe to the face to smear their make-up. Palin does not require the liberal dual standard to pretend.

Luckily for the Democrats their base is not very rational. They are easy to fool with rhetoric and emotion. Palin can see the fear under the overreaction and feeds off it. If I was in her shoes, I would keep their fear alive until they implode. As the fear grows, the flack will get worse, but maintain a tough skin until until a critical mistake is made. I won't tell you what that is, just keep watching the metamorphosis.

    Wow...

I can literally see the vision of Paul Rever galloping hither and yon, blasting away with his pistolas - perhaps shooting right into the bell towers to "let freedom ring" by employing the very arms he was no doubt screaming a vow that no durn British S.O.B. would e'er pry form even his cold, dead hands...

I say we appoint her Empress For Life, but play this in place of Hail To The Chief whenever she appears at official functions.

Yeah, yeah... ...everybody appreciates our Foundation. Who appreciates our Empire ?

No. She does not need to pretend. She is naturally that stupid.

The best thing for the Democrats is for Palin to run and win the ticket.

"I didn't mess up about Paul Revere," Palin said. "Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there that 'hey, you're not going to take American arms, you are not going to beat our own well-armed persons individual private militia that we have.'"

She blamed her previous answer on the media, saying it was a "gotcha question."

    (Source)

Because of course, asking her a very basic history question is trying to set her up to fail... As Joe McGinniss states:

Ringing bells and sending warning shots while on a clandestine mission? To warn the British that they “weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms?”

Was this the version of American history that Sarah learned in Wasilla public schools, and as the daughter of her schoolteacher/father Chuck Heath? Where she also learned that the earth was only six thousand years old and that men and dinosaurs walked it together?

Paul Revere didn’t “warn, uh, the British” of anything. He warned our side that the British army was advancing, in order that the rebels of Lexington and Concord would not be taken by surprise.

It isn't fear you see, it is facepalm moments being repeated over and over.

Palin is a conservative sex fantasy

Did you ever notice that at the same time we hear some connection between Sarah Palin and women's issue—

"Sarah Palin is a woman and liberals think their group should have a monopoly on women's issues. Palin can do all the liberal woman things (career) plus more than that, which makes her higher than their liberal woman standard. The fear is the loss of control over women, if this higher example of a woman gains too much power. There might be a migration of women to the other side." (#62)

—it also seems as if we're being asked to establish a lower standard for Sarah Palin because she's a woman?

Bill Maher famously explained last year:

And that's where this crew [Christine O'Donnell, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann] comes in. The lovely milfs of the new right. And their little secret is that their popularity comes exclusively from white men. Look at the polling: minorities hate them, women hate them. Only white men like them. I'm no psychiatrist, but I do own a couch. And my theory is that these women represent something those men miss dearly—the traditional idiot housewife.

The whole demand that liberals should give Sarah Palin's stupidity a pass because she is a woman is simply a a product of neurotic paradox arising from the conflicting demands laid upon the traditional housewife and the fact that they want an ignorant, obliged traditional housewife in a seat of power.

If conservatives thought Palin was ugly, she wouldn't be having this sort of success.

Laffo. A "gotcha question" that any third grader would've had no trouble answering. Real, actual "gotcha" questions are a fact of life in political office. She's either too stupid to realize that, or she has no intention of seeking office having abandoned the last one for a career of attention whoring. I'm betting on the latter, but I guess you never know.

I can imagine her 3 AM phone call: "Mrs. President we have confirmed MRBM launches from North Korea inbound to Japan, Guam, and Hawaii. Effector ETA is fifteen minutes. STRATCOM and Cheyenne Mountain are requesting DEFCON TWO, MDA is requesting clearance to intercept. Please advise."

WELL NOW THERE'S ONE-A THOSE PESKY LITTLE GOTCHA QUESTIONS, YOU BETCHA

what i dont understand if why she would WANT herself associated with Pauline Hanson. From a couple of different things i saw it apears that the "one nation" thing wasnt a stupid acident, it was a delibrate association with someone she relates to? admires? I dont get it, one nation and pauline hanson were so racist that even the concertive party wanted nothing to do with them. I would say they were probably our equivilant of those morons who go and protest at funerals. even family first (or religious wackjobs party) thinks one nation was out there. She did almost ireperable harm to our imiage overseas, especially in china.

Why would palin want to be associated with this?

What I find irritating is that when her stupidity is pointed out, it is treated as an anti-feminist issue. Or that she is beautiful and that is why people hate her, etc.

Her looks do not matter. Nor does her sex.

What does matter is that this individual is batshit insane and dim. And that is all that should matter.

When someone can't even get the basic parts of their country's history correct and then goes on to deny that she is wrong and then blames the media for asking her a very basic history question, then that individual should not be even in contention to run to lead that country.

why? we let howard lead the country inspite of his "Australia was collonised" and "black arm band view of history" crap

We are letting Abbot be oposition leader inspite of his inability to understand the basics of climate science, his anti feminist stances, and his inability to even remeber back to when he was health minster and what really happened to health funding.

Ok im being facetious on Abbott but howard wanted to denie what really happened and pretend everything was rosy and he became the second longest serving PM

John Howard was a dick. But he was not stupid. There is a difference.

Australia was colonised. The issue is that the colonisation and the declaration of terra nulius was wrong. He never denied that the treatment of Aboriginals was wrong. He felt that he should not be made to apologise for something he did not do.

Howard may be a lot of things, but he was not stupid or dim.

There is a reason why he is still the Opposition leader Asguard. Because his beliefs still hark back to cavemen days. But he is not stupid either. Just lacking in what one would deem "social graces". The one thing I give Abbott credit for is that he understands Aboriginal affairs now as they stand and he does what he can do to bring attention to it.

He didn't deny it happened. He felt that it was not him and not his fault, and that he should not be made to apologise for it.

Oh, but if you come from an elite family, like say, the Bush's, and your name is, say. . . . George? Well then, it's ok, you can be dumb as a box of rocks then.

You know what I would like to see. A common sense quiz off. The only reason W. knows more about world affairs is his family's position and how he was raised, otherwise? He's no smarter, and no more entitled than she is. If they played trivial pursuit against each other. . . would you bet your house the Bush would win? I wouldn't.

    Lets see..

As much as Bush caused many facepalm moments, I'd probably go with Bush, if I were so inclined or an American Conservative voter.

    You may be onto something..

Soon, at a cinema near you (I am assuming this is going to cinema and not straight to DVD or cable)...

"The Undefeated" - a Palin documentary detailing her rise and err her rise and her mistreatment by everyone around her. As former Bush speechwriter, Matt Latimer, notes:

There is not a single reference to Levi Johnston, not a glimpse (or even defense) of the infamous Katie Couric interview, no appearance by any serious critic of Palin’s gubernatorial record, and not a word about Paul Revere. Nor, by the way, is the point ever made that the "undefeated" Palin was in fact defeated in the 2008 election. But the movie is earnest in offering those who are willing to take a second look at the beleaguered Alaskan. And to his credit Mr. Bannon, who spent $1 million on this film, does not hide his intentions. "I believe this is the leader we need," he said of Palin at the screening, perhaps unhelpfully adding that she recently had mispronounced his name.

What is interesting is that all of these right wing candidates wrap themselves in the flag and Constitution and have little knowledge of the founding documents; founding fathers; and our history. Bachman does little better than Palin in that regard.

FOX News: Helping Palin's image by using other people's pictures

    Because It Is Funny

    From Mark Joyella at Mediaite:

On Sunday, a story about Palin being "50-50" on getting into the 2012 campaign included a graphic–featuring Tina Fey as Palin in an SNL skit from 2008. This one likely won’t go down quietly at Fox, which has had a few Palin-related screwups over the years, resulting in a strongly-worded memo to staff: cut. it. out:

Effective immediately, there is zero tolerance for on-screen errors. Mistakes by any member of the show team that end up on air may result in immediate disciplinary action against those who played significant roles in the "mistake chain," and those who supervise them. That may include warning letters to personnel files, suspensions, and other possible actions up to and including termination, and this will all obviously play a role in performance reviews.

(Matt Domic at MediaBistro offers the full text of the 2009 FOX News memo.)

The sum of FOX News: Maybe it was deliberate? Making Palin more attractive is a better excuse than not knowing the difference.

It is FOX News, after all, so maybe subbing Tina Fey for Sarah Palin is their version of quality control.

    A Pertinent Question

    A Pertinent Question

Jordyn Phelps brings us the latest twist for ABC News:

Palin attracted some attention last week during her bus tour up the Eastern seaboard for saying that Paul Revere actually warned the British and not the colonists ahead of the Revolutionary War.

"You know what, I didn't mess up about Paul Revere," Palin said in an interview of "Fox News Sunday." Here's what Paul revere did, he warned the Americans that the British were coming, the British were coming, and they were going to try to take our arms away and we gotta make sure that we were protecting ourselves and shoring up all our ammunitions and our firearms so that they couldn't take them, but remember that the British had already been there."

Here's how Palin re-told the classic Revolutionary War-era story last week while visiting Revere's house in Boston:

"He who warned the, the British that they weren't gonna be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells and, um, by making sure that as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that, uh, we were gonna be secure and we were gonna be free, and we were gonna be armed," the former Alaska governor said.

As ABC News' Sheila Marikar reported last week, Revere did not ring bells on his midnight ride, which was in fact a covert mission to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams about the approaching British army.

But when pressed by Fox News' Chris Wallace on Sunday about her interpretation of American history, Palin insisted that she got the story right. She continued by saying that Revere was a courier and didn't make just one ride.

"Part of his ride was to warn the British that we were already there, that hey, you're not going to succeed," Palin said. "You're not gonna take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well armed persons, individual private militia that we have. He did warn the British."

Palin wrote off the occurrence as a "shout-out, gotcha" question, telling Wallace that she knows her American history.

A pertinent question arises: Is there anyone left who actually believes the words coming out of Sarah Palin's mouth?
