In most cases paranoia is different than hallucinations...this is not to say that paranoia cannot escalate to hallucinations. I dont think weed is listed as a hallucinogen though.

someone here mentioned COPD, that is a real problem and is due to smoking...smoking anything so when we deny these things is indicative of some type of love affair...which in and of itself is indicative of a problem. Also, if you are prone to panic attacks may not want to hit the weed. Well then there is the olod adage 'if yer gonna do sometin...' and there i can agree. I dont do substances myself though I have done University level studies on same.

I've only met/heard of one other person with COPD from Marijuana smoking...mostly, people smoke less smoke volume to get high than cigarette smokers inhale...so they're less likely to damage their lungs to that extent.

Gee Spidey, depends on who the person is (genetic predisposition and which oncogenes are switched on) and how much they use for how long. There are a bunch of nasties in tobacco and on tobacco. Polonium 210 is a great carcinogenic place to start though, is in pretty much all commercially produced tobacco products. Nice article on that in a recent issue of Scientific American.

That works well on spider mites as well. Not sure what it has to do with my comment though..... Oxygen in sufficient concentration will also kill you, as will drinking a couple gallons of water rapidly.

Nicotine on its own in calculated amounts has proven effective in improving cerebral blood circulation in cases of mild cognitive impairment, however. Delivery was by patches, not by drinking cigarette sludge. :bugeye:

That was my point, and it remains factual, but thanks for your input.

I heard smoking increases intelligence. It was a study I heard of and the control groups were smokers and non smokers and the smokers by a large margin proved to be more intelligent. You wouldn't think so sense they are smoking. The other thing I heard was smokers are less likely to get Alzheimer.

I heard the exact opposite, at least in teenagers. I opt for the e-cig since its still nicotine but without all the nasty stuff. I would think there is no polonium210 in my e-liquid  . And its a lot cheaper and I think its also less addictive. I can go a day or two without and I don't get cravings, but when I'm drinking and I 'smoke', thats how I can really tell theres nicotine

OK, but you're crazy, so why should I believe you? I used to smoke for two reasons- it keeps you awake while driving late at night, and it keeps the flies away during the day.

I have heard that consuming acid causes an irreversible change within the body. Ok the brain is effected etc. etc. But is it true that not all the LSD is removed from the body as it penetrates the spinal cord and other areas within the central nervous system, and once in it can't be flushed out by the body?

I always had this in my head so I assumed that on the rare occasion that I had got too stoned and I started to trip again or at least see something dodgy (not as bad as acid but still not right), or when I was very ill and I started to hallucinate in the same way (as far as I can tell) again, then this was just down to the fact my body was down and that this allowed the LSD to regain a purchase on my metabolism and then my mind.

If this is true then there could be more variables involved. Chances are many cannabis smokers have tried LSD, though not all, maybe not even a overwhelming percentage. A study would need to be done.

I must state that I am totally clean now, for many years in fact, (but would possibly try peyote if it came up, purely for inquisitive reasons).

I would say that lysergic acid diethylamide makes permanent changes in the personna and perspective of the person taking it, but no, it does not remain in the body forever. That is an 'urban legend'.

Pot is not a/the "gateway drug", references and solid argument available on request.

We all "hallucinate", most of the time we just don't notice it.

I do not believe that there is such a state as "totally clean", but good on you for feeling that way!

So how come I 'came back up' when I was ill. I saw the wavering coloured segments on my arm, on everything, identical to a trip. Also (never happened to me) how come some people REALLY come back up on a trip and experience seriously problematic effects years after the drug has left the body?

I am as clean as they come. Nothing passes my lips bar a glass of wine once every few months or so. Everything else is just environmental contamination.

I have also come back up after doing shit-loads of buckets one after the other. How do you explain this?

Some of the disinformation about LSD was deliberately planted by the CIA.

I think you are right . Addiction comes in all forms . It could be something as small as making sure you put your socks on in a certain manner at a certain time and if you don't it screws up the whole day . Or you get a feeling of irritation from not sticking to routine. That irritation is like the same trigger that causes using . That is my take on it Doctor.

Spidey now . You hurt my feelings . Crazy? Are you sure I am crazy? You should not smoke . It is bad for your health . I like to smoke and probably will until I die if I die. I should be dead already , but I am not , so I smoke

I've heard more than one tweeker say pot is the one drug they could never give up. Besides sociopaths, tweekers are the biggest liars on this planet. But I do have a friend that's been smoking pot for over 40 years now, and the doctors told him he has emphysema and he needed to stop smoking. He cut down but didn't quit. I didn't find it any big deal to quit, so I have a real problem understanding what the big deal is here?

Normally quitting something for good is done because the person who is trying to quit has a pressing need: health, head-problems etc.

Of course some just quit to quit having a drug rule all or part of their existence (money etc.). I quit pot because it has heinous effects on my minds processing ability, plus crippling paranoia (though these symptoms are not always present so I conjectured some of the problem is due to intentional contamination, or just a personal genetic or built up intolerance problem with certain varieties).

    OK, a little physiology first.

In your eyes you have photoreceptors across your retina, excepting the fovia, where the optic nerve leaves your eye to go to your visual cortex. If you look straight ahead towards the horizon you should see 2 black spots about 6 inches in diameter about 6 feet in front of you due to the lack of photoreceptors in your 2 fovia. You do not see those black spots though, because your visual cortex takes the raw visual data from receptors nearby them and fabricates a seamless visual field from that which it displays for you to 'perceive'.

Further, you only have colour receptors in the area immediately surrounding the fovia, yet you 'perceive' a full colour field overall. How come? Again, your visual cortex takes the raw data input, calculates where there should be colour and displays that to you as a direct 'perception'. You do not really 'see' the colour that you think you do.

Another example of this mechanism is your 'perception' of 400 nanometer colour. A dark amethyst gemstone, a deep violet pansy flower - these are both coloured a 400 nanometer violet. You do not have the ability to actually directly perceive that colour though, your visual cortex manufactures what you think you see and presents it to you as a direct perception. 400 nm violet is a component of amethyst, precious opal, ruby, rubelite tourmaline and other fine gems. Part of why they are gems is the 'specularity' of that 400 nm violet - it seems almost magic in appearance due to the fact that it is purely manufactured by your brain, and we value this as a gem attribute.

If you try to stare at a red and green checkerboard pattern or a field of black and white shapes placed adjacently you will see shades that are not present and a bothersome flickering due to the fact that you are using what we call an 'opponent system' to perceive opposite colours or shades that occupy the same place at the same time. Your brain uses the same nerve pathways to 'see' both red and green or black and white. If they are both in the same place at the same time the subsystem switches perception from one to the other making the flicker.

These above items all constitute what we refer to as "hallucinations" because they are all "false perceptions" that are artifacts of the system we have evolved to perceive the world around us. If you sit and stare at the floor a few feet in front of you without looking around or moving at all for a while, keeping your eyes fixed (no saccads or eye movements at all) you will directly perceive the actual visual input that your visual cortex works with. You will call that "hallucinating" because your visual field will dissolve completely into a meaningless morass of vague form and colour, until you move your eyes. Then your visual cortex will remanufacture a complete scene to present you with as a "perception".

Transitory anoxia (temporary lack of sufficient oxygen), low blood pressure, low blood sugar, chronic lactic acidosis, excess acetone/acetic acid, sleep deprivation etc etc can all throw this system out of balance and allow you to hallucinate. A thorough examination by a trained professional would be needed to exclude these and other possible causes for transient failures in visual perception.

I do not know what you mean by "...doing shit-loads of buckets one after the other..." so I cannot address that, sorry.

Also, I have never met anyone that "really came back up on a trip years later" so I cannot speculate on that either.

Otherwise, I hope that I have answered at least part of your question.

I did not get this information from an Internet link, sorry. I garnered it from university classes in perception, sensation, physiology and related topics. Part of my education in the mind sciences. I keep up with the current research by reading several periodicals and Internet sources like Science Daily as well as picking up and reading anything interesting that I encounter.

EDIT: Scientific American and Scientific American Mind are very good sources, check their archives on the topic.
