    Swimming

That layer of fat under the skin which maked babies plump, also makes them bouyant.

that is funny that woman said the mole rat was the exception for land hairless mammals coming from water . I have contended for decades that we come from an underground hairless rodent and that is why our line didn't die out with the dinosaurs. Underground and safer from earth impacts . Yeah Way ! Someone else came up with the theory , it just made sense to Me that it could be true

Ever consider why humans need to bathe to be comfortable?

What you talking about ? I am comfortable in my own stink . I smell like roses . On second thought ! I need a shower .
I once saw a statistic that said the average time span of bathing on a world wide scale was once a month. Maybe due to lack of water in some areas . If that is the average what is the extreme ? Once a day for lots of Americans and they won't even drink the tap water that comes out of the sink in the kitchen that some people might kill for just to drink. Americans think of it as ass water for bathing only, or maybe for doing dishes and laundry . I drink it , but then again I live on the edge of social norms . Actually Missoula Montana water is pretty good . Better than a lot of bottled water . High Mountain springs ! Na that is not it . It is an impermeable layer of clay between the surface water and the ground waters is why . It keeps out the pollution heeby jeebies . Oil and gas products and what have you . Very tasty too. God I am a lucky bastard to live in paradise . That is why it is called Gods Country . Yeah that is what they say . They will say How are things in Gods Country and I will say Fine

    No possible way.

Or take a look at some of the polls on the internet and you'll see that more than once a day isn't uncommon, once a day tends to be the most common and some go a few days. Only infrequently will someone say they go a week without bathing (but they also usually say they work in a very clean environment and don't sweat at their jobs), anyone going a month without bathing is going to have serious skin problems.

In the "Tree Hugger" poll 52% bathed AT LEAST once a day, and 25% said Every other day.

So the more reasonable conclusion is that people, even in a modern world where people are not generally directly exposed to the elements and typically put on clean clothes each day, still prefer to clean themselves with water and soap every day, and more than once a day if they do something that makes them sweat a lot.

Bollocks. No mammal, thrown into a pool, is going to drown in confusion. They all flail around a bit and most of them can swim a damn sight better than people. Did they have an aquatic phase also?

As far as tossing a mammal into a pool, toss most baby mammals into a pool and the results will not be the same.

Unlike most land animals which can swim sufficiently to cross small bodies of water and/or avoid drowning long enough to get to shore, people are natural swimmers and will stay in the water for hours at a time.

The only animals that choose to stay in the water as long as we do and can swim as well as humans can are all semi-aquatic animals. No other land animal can swim as fast or as far as a human can, not to mention our ability to dive, hold our breath and see underwater. You want to compare other animals to humans as far as our natural water abilities you will invariably have to bring in other semi-aquatic animals like hippos and otters.

Humans do seem to be attracted to water. You wouldn't think they would need signs to tell people to stay out of canals and drainage areas. We also seem to find the sound of moving water comforting (waterfalls, rippling sounds, rain...etc). Do other land animals just hangout in the water, for no real reason, as often as people are known to do?

I do not have time now to research this, so I will merely post an opinion.

If my not always reliable memory is correct, the Aquatic Ape Theory was supported by some cogent arguments, but failed to find any supporting archaeological or anthropological evidence.

Primates seemed to have evolved in jungle environments. It is my understanding that aquatic mammals like otters, whales, seals, et cetera originally evolved as land dwellers. I am not sure about whales, but do not remember any articles about their evolutionary ancestors. They certainly are not similar to any of the animals known to have evolved in an aquatic environment.

Did you watch the videos? They seem to point out some marked differences we have with regards to other mammals especially savannah mammals. As I understand it aquatic apes didn't live "In" water but hunted and foraged there. If they were living at the waters edge I should think archaeological or anthropological evidence would naturally be hard to find.

Other mammals I'm aware of that do it are essentially semi-aquatic, like otters, beavers, nutria, muskrat, capybara etc.

I don't know who did the research back in the day " 30 years ago " but I did see a foot note on the internet that in the 1700s the expression Throw the baby out with the bath water came from people taking a bath once a month . The Father Would take his bath first then all the other grown Men then the Mother and then the children by age and when they got to the baby the water was so dirty you could not see the baby in the bath water . Hence forth the expression
