For what ground? You should not banned him.

I saw that. If somebody asked you to jump, are you going to jump?

That's not a accurate analogy, now is it?
You asked on what grounds. He asked for it.
If you want to reply to this I suggest you take it to PM.

Because he requested it, like I said before.

It is a member's choice as to whether they wish to remain a member here or not. For some reason, these kinds of requests ("Please ban my account") are not uncommon. Perhaps people don't trust themselves to leave and not come back.

Whenever I receive one of those requests, I contact the member concerned, advising them that it might be better for them simply to stop posting here, but to leave their account open. That way, if they change their mind some time in the future they can return.

When I received Saquist's request, that is exactly what I did.

Saquist replied that he had made his decision, that he realised that he was burning his bridges, but that he really really wanted to be permanently banned. So I obliged him.

What would you have done? Do you think I should have said "No, Saquist! I know better than you do what you want and/or what is best for you. So, I refuse to allow your request."

Kinda seems strange to me given how adamant Saquist was that he remained emotionally unaffected by all the discussion he engaged in.

you have to consider that his computer may have been hacked or could be someone playing a joke on him for revenge or something

    Thank you, James R,

For your response. I think I understand your position. But other people may have argument with your reasoning.

I've noticed that there are three primary reasons members ask to be banned:

    1) WOUNDED: They feel butt-hurt about something and want to take control of one last action on this site that might drum up sympathy to the point where it makes them feel better.

    2) SCARRED: They have been jaded to the point of no return where their only contribution to the site is trolling and whining. They want to stop, but lack the willpower to do it.

    3) ADDICTED:Their participation on this site is interfering with their personal lives and they lack the ability to stop giving this site attention.

As sciforums does not employ professional psychologists/psychiatrists to help members with their emotional issues, a healthy approach is to forcibly separate the member from the site. The only caveat is that it does drum up sympathy for reason 1) amongst members whom don't understand the psychology as well as whining/trolling amongst scarred members who don't realize they are scarred or don't care.
