The whole island of japan has actually moved 8 feet... just think about that, the power to do that :m:

It's already awful that they were hit by this strong earthquake and tsunami. Now the constant earthquakes that follow and the Nuclear Power Plant problematic. I think this will demotivate a lot of help coming from outside of Japan as hardly anyone would really want to risk being present when the real meltdown occurs. The Nuclear Power Plant issue was really not needed, that sucks so enormously much. This time Japan was really hit hard..
But I really have to say that this just proves that a future without Nuclear power plants is safer.

Anyway, my heart really hurt when I saw this mum who was crying when she said how her son was taken away by the tsunami and that she hopes that he somehow managed to get out of it alive..there must be many more people who are in a similar situation as her..it must be an awful, really awful situation.
Sometimes donating doesn't seem to be enough .. after seeing the footages it looks like a good piece of Japan has been wiped off the map.

There is a photo on the BBC front page, of an elderly man holding his shoes in one hand and crying as he walks along..

What do you think happens if a meltdown occurs?

Really? How many people has nuclear power killed? Even Chernobyl proven death told, including actually detected cancer rate increase and death there off from cancer is less then 70 people. A hydroelectric dam blew in japan from the earthquake, washed out a whole town, yet where is the statements we should not have hydropower?

Now these powerplants were 40 years old, new designs are safer and I see no reason to forbid nuclear power because of a 9.0 earthquake and tsunami which killed and destroyed some much, might as well be arguing that people should not live on the Japanese islands!

Hydro power causes more deaths per kWh then the nuclear industry does.

The problem here is that the press insist on interviewing antinuclear activists as experts. The explosion was Hydrogen being vented from the primary containment vessel. The venting was deliberate, to reduce pressure and temperature.

The only thing we know for certain is that one of the fuel rods may have been damaged. That's what the presence of the Caesium means.

These comments on twitter and facebook are so disgusting and inhumane, or maybe it's just that, human..it's really incredible how some people spread hatred even if they see how the people there are suffering, innocent people!:

Pearl fucking Harbor? Of all the things to want karmic vengeance pearl harbor is the most fucking ignorant and racist of them! The Japanese murdered 20-30 million people during world war 2, pearl harbor was just 2,500 dead. If anyone should be allowed to dance in glee over the suffering of Japanese people in these present events (and I don't think anyone should as I don't believe in collective guilt) it should be the people of Manchuria, or maybe all the surviving sex slaves, or just about every Asian country Japanese imperial troops pillaged and raped and bombed. Certainly Americans should be the last people claiming karmic vengeance for themselves! Americans already had there vengeance and not by acts of karma either, they had it by fire bombings and atomic bombings and occupation of japan which is still politically America's personal bitch to this day!

    "kaboom"?

Enough to reconsider our future energy sources.

I don't care if they were 40 years old, or 1 year old. They were one way or the other not foolproof as some people like to claim. (like as if in Europe the majority of Nuclear Power Plants was a lot newer and safer

) It's been fed to us for I don't know how long that things like that only happen in Russia, but obviously even the Japanese high standards weren't enough to guard them from a disaster of the likes, so what about other countries? I've seen the standards in some French Nuclear Power Plants, and really, contaminated fluid escapes there without even one single earthquake occurring, so I really don't want to know what would happen if an Earthquake (or some other disaster) would hit us.

Uh, right, so suggesting that we shouldn't rely on nuclear power plants any more in the future is the same as saying people should move away from Japan..

I'm sorry, but I actually think there's a difference if we consider the long lasting effects of a meltdown and compare them with the side effects of a dam that blew up. One way or the other I never said that our future lies within hydroelectric dams

Great stuff, but who said that hydroenergy is the future? One way or the other it's strange to compare the two, as if hydroenergy dam that breaks could negatively affect the whole country and all the surrounding nations..seems to me that a nuclear meltdown is more far reaching once it "breaks".

Is that so? Well, I've seen just as many pro nuclear people speaking up in the media, who are downplaying the whole thing, claiming that in their country this won't and can't happen, and so on.. I mean, you gotta love em too those pro nuclear experts.

Yeah, I heard about this deliberate venting, too, and I hope that they manage to get it under control.

well, of course they don't care about the millions in ww2 because it wasn't all american lives which they don't say.

also, they forget that hawaii was taken over by america and it shouldn't have been. do they mention that? also hawaii is mostly asian/japanese and polynesians, lol. why? because it wasn't really american territory to begin with.

people are fucking stupid and hypocritical as hell. but the thing is, it can have power. the lie can become the truth.

Yeah, it's really crazy how those people bring up Pearl Harbour..It shocked me actually when I read those hateful comments. I hope they're just a minority.

no, they aren't a minority. they are probably half or more of the population which goes to show that too much democracy isn't always a good thing. after all, they vote.

You'd think two nukes would be the "remember" pearl harbor retort.
    This is sad and pathetic...
Americans have some seriously debilitating ignorance...
