Actually, Crescent City CA has seen waves of 2m (6.6ft), which is bigger than they got in Omaezaki (1.42m - 4.6ft).

[That's height above MSL, rather than trough to crest].

From my experience with Japan and its people they are probably the most capable of any country to deal with this terrible catastrophe! No doubt they will need help and they will get plenty. Wow, now media is reporting that radiation is a 1000 times more than normal around one of their nuclear power plants!

yeah and tsunami waves usually aren't every tall but are very wide, so they have a huge amount of momentum so a relatively low wave comes in and just keeps going, climbing further upland that its height would suggest possible.

I was thinking all their war crimes during the second war, but I guess that counts for damnation too, either way god is late.

Quake 2000x stronger than the one in Christchurch. Ship swept away with 100 souls. Serious aftershocks up to 6.2 on richter scale. 4 nuclear plants affected. 1 has had a radiation leak - people have been evacuated within 10km radius. likely 1000 or more dead. PM activated emergency reaction comittee as head. Airport inundated. more to follow...

This was so amazed me about the helicopter footage of the wave....it just keep going...and going...and going....well beyond what I thought. It was like a giant bulldozer blade, leveling everything in its path. It was almost like it was alive. Definitely, a true example of the amazing power of nature. I feel sorry for all of those who lost everything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's ability to go so far inland is due to the wave's low frequency, and much longer wavelength than a standard, wind-blown wave.

and it slows greatly when it reaches shallows and the coast line, you can read the mechanics of a tsunami off of Wikipedia if you want.

No, it was 316 times stonger than the one in Christchurch, the Richter scale is a log scale 10[sup]8.8[/sup]/10[sup]6.3[/sup] = 316, not 2000.

Yeah it sort of reminded me of the blob.

Yeah that is it. Sort of counter intuitive, as longer frequencies mean less power in EM and sound waves and the only way to compensate is with higher amplitudes.
