8.9! It's so so...major. As someone experienced earthquakes and know what's a 7.6 like, I really don't know what to say. It's huge. It's so fucking huge. Hang in there Japan. You're the best at this. PS: By the way, this is one of the few biggest earthquakes happened in the last 100 years. How many are there close to this magnitude? Edit: It's counted as the biggest 5th ever measured in modern times.
I'm wondering how they are battling the weather. Its 9 degrees celcius and more than 2M buildings have no electricity.

Anybody noticed that the Japanese cars were floating in the water? That just shows how airtight they are made, probably wouldn't sink if you drove off a bridge in it... Good quality...
Surreal Horror! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YPOK_3r8Dc what a nice shout out. why do that, clearly god wants them to die.
At least 1000 dead! http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fgw-japan-quake-death-toll-20110312
I believe the cars floating has less to do with quality and more to do with force verses mass. The cars are floating because the water is pushing them to the top.
8000 times stronger than christchurch LOS ANGELES — At least 35 boats were crushed in the harbor of a northern Californian community hit by waves from the Japanese tsunami -- and an official said worse was feared. Some 7,000 people were evacuated from the harbor area in Crescent City, 350 miles north of San Francisco, said emergency services manager Cindy Henderson. "We have at least 35 boats that have been crushed. We have boats on top of other boats," she told AFP, adding that their last surge had registered 8.1 feet (2.5 meters) -- although it had not yet breached the sides of the harbor. http://www.mercurynews.com/central-coast/ci_17591372 Japan Earthquake: Helicopter aerial view video of giant tsunami waves
was there an evacuation of coastal areas? how long after the earthquake did the tsunami hit the coast? population of affected areas? i say tens of thousands dead
Yeah - luckily for them it wasn't as close to an urban center as Christchurch was (although I believe that 10[sup]8.8[/sup]/10[sup]6.3[/sup] is only 316, not 8000) it was similar in depth to the Christchurch Earthquake (10km vs 5km)
It looks really bad. Although Japan always has a security 'plan' this time it's too much even for them since they've asked for help. It must be awful, the loss of people and homes! And all the water, and destroyed objects that are hindering the help process.. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I hope they will recover fast, and that not more people will die.
