I imagine a world without borders where we intelligently resolve fragmented opinions without war but with intelligence and all of humanity shares a common goal and works to make it a reality. For example discovering the secrets of the universe or improving our ability to venture into space. What are your own visions or opinions on the subject?

When all humans have the basics for living taken care of:

Home, food, clothing, education, communications, mobility, entertainment and the all important complete health care.

Yep! SciWriter, In the far future if ever.

I've been doing that my entire life! I've always seen only humans, not Russians, Hindi or other ethnic peoples whenever I talk with them. I'm trying to help not hinder others in most cases to try and strive for a better place in which to live. Few however are in my mind set for the most part but sometimes I stumble across another fellow traveler that shares my own ideals and thoughts. Most think only of themselves, unfortunately, and strive to only get what they can from others and seldom want to share with them. :itold:

A good first step is ending world hunger. Of course a cure for AIDS would be nice too.

But I believe the greed of men will make a utopian future impossible.

If we were able to convince ourselves to act with respect and consideration for others the number of problems we need to deal with would go way down.

As for my vision of the "future" - I am already living in the future from my perspective, and it is very different from what we expected 'way back when. (think "2001" a Space Odyssey, 1983 J. Hendrix, 1984 the movie etc...)

I fear the biggest obstacle is dictators who happen to have an army that agrees with this one guy's doctrine. That is the basis for suffering these days worldwide.

Maybe the solution is building a collective consciousness of all mankind based on a new system of government and tons of education. Seems like the world is extremely uneducated and our educational institutes are very poor. Its the equivalent of shoving a jar temporarily full of information that has a crack and slowly leaks because they don't care about the information. Perhaps education isn't even needed... If we can break down the defense of our opinions and let ourselves blend we could defragment our opinions and come to greater love and peace and unity and work toward a common goal such as the long term survival of all life on earth. Great song by the way Cosmic i listened to the whole thing and to hear that you always been like that builds greater respect to you I am the same way.

It is worth pointing out that humanity is well on the way down this road already. For example : take human wars and inter-personal violence. It is now way less than it used to be.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ramBFRt1Uzk

Deaths from war, rated on the percentage of the population that dies that way, is at an all time low. Homicides were 100 per 100,000 population per year in medieval times. In most western nations, it is now round 1. (The exception is that very backward country, the USA, which runs at 5 to 6).

Longevity now runs at an average of 55 years in third world nations, up from 25 only 50 years ago. In first world nations, it is round 80. This is a reflection of improved health overall.

Slavery used to be almost ubiquitous, with a very high percentage of humans living as slaves. Today it is close to extinct.

Sure we have a long way to go. But never forget how far we have come. From warring tribes where warfare was the biggest cause of death to males, and slavery a common fate for females, to a modern society in which most people live in staggering comfort (compared to our ancestors) with high standards of health, and life span keeps increasing.

I would like to see a world in which national governments (especially the USA) were stripped of most of their taxing powers.

The start of the decline of the USA economy started when they amended the constitution to allow a federal income tax.

This gave the federal government real economic power. Our economy & government activities are so complex that 80-95% of the voters have no clue about what is good, bad, or unimportant legislation.

Campaigning is based on 30 second sound bytes & laws written by lobbyists.

The trillion plus bailouts due to the problems started in 2008 may or may not have been a good idea. Nobody really knows what would have happened without those bailouts.

What is obvious to those who pay attention is that 1/4 to 1/3 of that money was pork barrel. Politicians have two fundamental principles governing their decisions.
A politician is motivated by his desire to win the next election. He does not care what happens in 5,10, 50 years.

No crisis can be allowed to go unexploited. Economy needs a bailout: How much can be allocated to pork barrel projects? New Orleans is devastated by a hurricane: How much can be allocated to pork barrel projects? No matter what the problem is, they will spend 20-30% of the money feathering their own nests.
How many people know that 40% of the money spent by the federal government is borrowed? How long would any business or family survive if they borrowed 40% of the money they spent and did not save anything? I wish I could be Rip Van Winkle, sleep for 200 years, & see how this nonsense turns out.

If there is no collapse, it will be because inflation will allow them to pay off the debt. The Social Security problem might be solved by not indexing for inflation, cutting down a huge financial problem 50-100 years from now. The government might be able to pay interest & principal on the national debt with dollars which do not have their current purchasing power. Foreign countries holding treasury bonds might be smart enough to stop lending in order to avoid being cheated by inflation.

I agree with the first two parts, and the others will change of their own volition if they seek to emulate you.

We are a species that learns best through direct observation and experience, would be my observations.

"Become the change that you would see in the world."

Just another retake on the golden rule.

Treat others as you would have them treat you in return.....

One does have to ponder upon how to relate to individuals whom may have been born with or acquired injury which does not allow them to function well, even inclining them to violence against others and self.

The golden rule works from the perspective of logical response. It is not adequate to address every circumstance, as I have briefly outlined above.

How to intervene to prevent harm, while at the same time respecting the rights of each individual remains the most contentious sticking point of ethics for me, largely a believer of non-intervention.

Sometimes one does have to make a call, in my experience.....

Yes I agree with you, although the third part of my statement is subject to change; since if I would truly know myself, my mental state would be different than now, and my ideas about changing the world would inevitably be different. So I can really not assert what would I do in the state where I fully know myself, everything from this point would be just wildly guessing.
So you are right, the statement would be better:
Know myself, change accordingly through insight; and then act from that mental state, maybe change others, maybe only be a helping hand, or maybe remain silent, I don’t know right now.

LOL how do you propose we do that? I agree that over population is the main problem of the world in general. But all I can do about it is not to have children myself, that’s about it.

Humanity is literally a plague of the world as in:
