In this thread John99 made the claim:
    And later stated:
    Followed by:
This should be, um, interesting (?)

    Go ahead John.

What i need for you to do is find a "to scale" model of the earth and the moon.

No. What YOU need to do is prove your point.
I'm not doing your work for you.

I found one. I want to see one that other people post, for reference. And then it will be very simple. The tides are the result of the Earths rotation only.

What other people post should be irrelevant to your "proof".
    You're evading.
    Just get on with it.

It is important because i already have one image of the scale and i want to cross reference the image i have. My work relies on the Coriolis Effect.

    More evasion.
You claimed you could prove it.
    Now you're just back-pedalling.
Can you "prove" it or not?
    Are you bullshitting or not?

To any other readers: answers not required on a postcard.
    They are, in order:
    No and Yes.

How am i back pedaling? I already gave the answer. If anyone here wants to give up the image then once it is displayed the answer will be right in front of you and is indisputable.

I will repeat: I know for a FACT that the moon does not effect tides on the earth...and then, once image is displayed, so will everyone.

By not giving your "proof" and requesting others post images. If you have a proof it doesn't require other people to join in.

No you didn't. You hand-waved with "coriolis" and proved exactly... nothing.

No. You believe and so far have made no attempt to justify (or even support) that belief. You claimed you could prove it and have not done so.

    So get on with it.
But it will need more than simply a picture to constitute a proof (which was your claim).

Wow, it certainly looks far away! LOL. John, you must be pulling our leg. Even the sun has a small effect on tides, and that is much farther away.

    Proves nothing.
You haven't even bothered to say how that picture "proves" your contention.
    Massive fail.

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope that your education by-pass wasn't too painful.

No, it must be true. I already said this long ago...before i saw the actual scale image and how small the moon is, in comparison, and when i saw that i knew my initial theory was correct.

There is no way the moon effects the oceans on the earth it is too small and too far....unless it was a powerful magnet and the earth was liquid metal. I tell you, it is simply due to the weight of the ocean and once it reaches a certain point the weight\force forces the reverse- hight tide\low tide. Now just the details need to be worked out. But this is a start.

So you can't actually prove it (despite your claim) and you'd rather stick with wilful ignorance as an answer?
    Well done John.
I knew you were, um, stupid, but I hadn't previously realised quite how stupid.

Does that picture also prove that ants are bigger than the Earth?

I cant prove that you dont understand.

That is a SCALE image. The image tells everything all i needed to do was point it out.

Soon things will change, and what i am saying will slowly creep in. Just a matter of time. You have to remember, the visual representation and accuracy of it, is new. In order for the moon to effect the oceans at that distance it would need to be as large, or larger, than the earth.

I would like for someone to post a scale image of earth - sun - moon...bet they cant find any.

Why are tides higher when the sun and moon are aligned?

The following is a wonderful example of a proof.
I will repeat: I know for a FACT that the moon does not effect tides on the earth...and then, once image is displayed, so will everyone.
I wish I had thought of such a proof during exams in physics & mathematics courses. It would have eliminated a lot of effort. At least the following is an attempt to provide a cogent argument.
I tell you, it is simply due to the weight of the ocean and once it reaches a certain point centrifugal force forces the revers- hight tide\low tide.
Since you are disputing a POV accepted by mainstream science, your alleged explanation requires some supporting mathematics, which I am certain that you cannot provide.

Those who make extraordinary claims must provide excellent (if not extraordinary) supporting evidence as well as some mathematics (if applicable).

You also can't prove your claim.

Yet you haven't pointed out anything. Your claim, presumably, is that the Moon is too small, or too far (or both) to affect tides. Yet you haven't shown this.

Bollocks. We've had excellent figures for Earth and Moon sizes and relative distance for centuries. Your lack of education does nothing to make your point.

What's your point? I could create one.

DH I think this thread (and John99 please!) are ready for the Cesspool.

No, the question was why does this always happen.
