As many of you know...I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I have heard about some revolution in Egypt...but I'm not understanding why. I was hoping some of the smarter members of the board could explain to me what's going on. Thanks.
Security officials said a total of 860 protesters have been rounded up nationwide since Tuesday, when tens of thousands turned out for the largest protests in Egypt in years — inspired by the uprising in Tunisia. They demanded Mubarak's ouster and a solution to grinding poverty, rising prices and high unemployment. "What happened yesterday was a red light to the regime. This is a warning," businessman Said Abdel- Motalib said on Wednesday. Though Wednesday's demonstrations were much smaller, it was significant that protesters were able to sustain the movement over two days given the heavy handedness police have shown and the Interior Ministry's warning that there would be zero tolerance for any more unrest. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41267995/ns/world_news-mideast/n_africa/
Freedom? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Either that or people trying to get freedom because they saw others get it and are trying to replicate how the others got it, but because of different circumstances are likely to fail horribly.
Somebody get Mubarak some jet tickets to Riyadh ready. He's trying to shut down the Egyptian internet. Good luck with that.
Hi Mac, we've been sorta discussing the events happening in Egypt, Lebanon, Yemen, Tunisia, Libya etc, over here http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=106061 In short, there is a popular uprising in Egypt, following the one in Tunisia, and the Egyptian people are attempting to throw off the 30 year dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak Hosni Mubarak has reacted by shutting down, one by one, twitter, facebook, the cell phone service and is now trying to shut down the internet. Opposition leaders have been arrested and thousands of protestors jailed You can follow the real time news at The Arabist [a blog run by freelance Arab journalists - currently blocked by the Egyptian government], Mondoweiss [a blog run by freelance American journalists] and on the BBC Pictures here http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/01/protest_spreads_in_the_middle.html Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
The Internet can't be stopped, the Internet is deathless! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! ... Shhhiiiittt!
Ahahahaha! Joe Biden on Egypt: open mouth, insert foot, rinse and repeat! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3twWTFF0hQ After that "what not to do" here is a more rational and realistic outlook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_MTDWdsr40&feature=channel
Christ we can't have that! When are the US going to send in troops to stop this nonsense! Biden = Dumbass.
Oh my God! Protesters! They're ALWAYS angry about SOMETHING! Sheesh... Whenever I saw those people protesting the Holy War in the Holy Land under Jesus' right hand man George W. Bush, or those even worse 9/11 Truth hippies, I was just like: Shut up, guys! We have minimum wage, beer, internet porn, and football. Why the hell are you going out of your way to complain about stuff? Egypt is second largest recipient of US foreign (military) aid after Israel. I don't think, therefore, that any protesters or oppositions will be kindly received by the US. The government of the US that is. A government that seems increasingly distant from either end of the political spectrum. Of the citizenry.
I think it's easily simplified: they've had the same President for 30 years? That's reason enough to overthrow him.
It have been infected by Tunisia. and it's still goone be their more, Mubarak, cencored facebook, google, and twitter, also stoppe al jazeera news channel in egypte, and cuted the communications, but, it wan't work, it seems it's getting more and more tuff everyday Jordan, on the way! What will the United States do without Mubarak? Replace him with someone else? This is the nagging thing in my mind. All these protests and impending regime changes, I keep asking myself whether someone is secretly driving this to take advantage of it somehow.
