Got any info about that pic, ie, when does it date from?

Er, the fax was invented in the 1800's, so it's hardly surprising it's use will be 'predicted' in a journal dating from 1900.

Again, TV experiments were happening at the time of the publication of that journal. It's not a prediction of technology yet to appear, just a prediction of it's deployment.

    Youch!

Or you could spend that money on a Cessna Skycatcher for £112,000 leaving a lot left over for a couple of nice cars, one at each end of your commute.

Let's face it, you aren't going to want to drive far in that converted aircraft thing, certainly on roads you don't know, and parking would be problematic, it's 19'6" long,... that's a foot longer than a LeSabre, and I doubt it handles very well.

mind-uploading. like not-functional just positions of neurons yeah by 2020 no doubt.

Also, what is all this about flying cars? It's like the hummer *1000 in terms of fuel-efficiency. Fuel is still the major road-block IMO. There is a reason turkeys don't soar and ostriches can't fly - because they don't drink Gatorade or eat sports bars? Nature has proven our biological limits on this planet. We need less natural more efficient fuel sources than oil & gas that's all. That will drive innovation in space too.

Like if everything is so cylical then we had the IPhone before year 2000 and it was destroyed?

"Its 23-gallon gas tank provides a 425 nautical mile range (35 mpg on the road)"

    It's not bad actually.

the futuretimeline.net, may be realistc for the 21 and 22 centuries, with most, but the other ones, are, the part of the technology an expanding on other planets, is bullshits, i mean, he didnt take in considerations the coming wars, and he was always positive, life can't be all positive like that! but i'm not against the other ones that are scientific, like when the sun will die, and etc...

you couldn't just back track the link? I'll give you a hint: read the name of image, copy and paste it into goggle. Its from 1908, printed in Harper's Weekly.

This is an interesting cope out, so if I make a projection based on technology of today its not the same as a prediction? So because they had the most basic technologies of electronic communication at the time their predictions of mobile phones and of what we today call the internet are mundane? If so you do relies you just completely destroyed your own original argument?

Question: why has not anyone investing in, mass produced or even built one of these yet?:

It looks like the perfect fusion of motorcycle, ATV and snowmobile into one extreme all terrain, all year round, sport vehicle. It should dominated the land sports vehicle market, but all signs at present point to it being just a drawing board idea, why?

So again, not a prediction of new technology, just a parody of that which existed already.

It's not a prediction of new technology, is it? It's merely speculation about the development of existing tech.

Because generally, it would SUCK, being a compromise too far?

You havnt seen it to market cause the drive track would never last.On hard surfaces such as asphalt the track would disintegrate in short order. And then given all the maneuvers 2-wheelers do on a regular basis could not be done with a track. There's more problems.

And this is all a strawman on your part, lets look at your original statement

I don't see anything in their separating predictions from projections, more so if you were doing so then it makes no sense to put in "flying cars" in this statement as to predict flying cars relies on already knowing about cars and thus an established technology.

In fact if you look at the 1900 predictions for lady's magazine you see they were more accurate with predicting wireless communications technologies then fly technologies!

Now your new argument that predictions are less accurate then projections make total sense, but it has no weight on your original claim.

How would it suck? At least X-men reasons it out!

Well I would not think it would be on asphalt much, dirt bikes, ATVs and snowmobiles usually aren't, as for track mobility:

I can't say "no" to that. A hundred trillion years ago, when this Universe was here before, and another Earth was in this same spot, and this thread was rambling along as it is now. . . . can you say we didn't? I can't say we did though. . . I just look at how everything else in the Universe works. . . everything, and I think, why not?

Where do you live? A big city? Suburbia? That's what I am going to guess. Because if you lived way up north, way out in the back woods where people actually USE snowmobiles, ATVs, and motorcycles, I don't think you would need to ask this question.

Again nothing to do with what you originally said, you were saying they *something* up flying cars but not mobile phones or internet, I showed evidence of the reverse and you then try to argue about what is a prediction or a projection or what ever, strawman. Admit it, they foresaw mobile phones they foresaw vast information exchange what we today call the internet. Now of you argue they did not call it by name or did not accurately predict the color of an iphone your being silly, they got the basic concept and even the basic idea of it, and even an inkling of what it would do to society.

I live in Minnesota, I have lived why out in the back woods where people actually USE snowmobiles and ATVs and dirt bikes, no please love to know why a mono-track thingy like that is not practical, enlighten me.

Having been a competition off-road motorcyclist in my youth, I don't see how this thing could compete for serious sport riding. You can't power-slide the rear wheel out to make a tighter turn. If you broke it loose you'd also be sliding the front, which is a disaster. The way to go over a big bump on a dirt bike is to push down with your feet and pull up on the handlebars to get the front wheel in the air just as you hit the bottom of the bump (a "wheelie"), so you come down rear-wheel first and don't crash. I don't think this will do that either. How much does it weigh? Looks heavier than a dirt bike. They have to be light or you get worn out controlling them in rough terrain.

It looks like it would be fine as simply an off-road transportation vehicle, but not for play or competition. That would put it in a category with an ATV, but it doesn't have the hauling capacity.

I've never ridden a Ski-doo, so I'll let someone else make that comparison.

When the lake freezes over, I have a hard time imagining this thing would go anywhere. The people out there want speed. I don't see this thing getting any speed at all. Even in the category of motorcycles. . . there are so many kinds. Nobody tries to make an bike that is for racing, touring, off-roading, etc. because no bike can properly do it all. It would fail miserably at all of them. This thing would be a master at none of them. Even other people that owned ATVs would cream this thing at off-roading. The only enthusiasts you could ride with? Are other people that owned the same machine. And when ever you encountered other people that were, off-roading/ snowmobiling/ cycling/ etc. You would get your ass whipped. They would leave you behind with a smirk, a queer look, and a chuckle, that's all.

A multi-purpose rec vehicle doesn't work, because people want peak performance when they are in a social group. You are sacrificing performance for multi-purpose utility. This isn't a rec vehicle, it's a mode of transportation.

    Fraggle Rocker,

Now when you talk about competition, why on earth would this thing be in competition with ATV, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, are their competitions were ATV, dirt bikes, snowmobiles compete against each other?

From the snowmobile prospective this thing would be an all around improvement on that, the skids and the melted snow based lubricating system only works on certain terrain at a certain time of the year (I'll let you guess), this thing should go as fast as a snowmobile but work all year around on all the terrain a snowmobile can't.

Now as for dirt bikes, I would put a good bet this thing could beat them on snow and sand.

As for ATV, yeah sure that is actually used for things, I've even seen some with lawn mower trailing attachments, I was thinking for like pure sport.

I think the reason its not being manufacture is because its tread would be way too expensive even with today's technology, a tread that can bend in both vertically and horizontally, needs to withstand sand, mud, snow, gravel, asphalt, etc and move at 60+ mph, yeah not cheap.

    The Esotericist,

Yes this is a rec vehicle, so yeah, whole comment wasted.

Not in the same league as Jules Verne though, is it?

Not a leap of imagination. Just extrapolations of existing tech. And there was no prediction of the Internet, ... I think you forget that is was designed as a scaleless network, ... not just a method to download stuff.
