it took me 1 week to tried many many times, until i got to change a nvidia graphic card, because CUBA will install the card's driver very easily.
and I also managed updated it to 10.6.4, in order to reboot, you must install legacy kernel.

If you want a unix system with decent multimedia capability, why not just use ubuntu?

mac os x 10.6.4, this is mine.
get it from here.
Audio driver and nvidia driver all perfectly installed.
it is GREAT.
get boring with windows, so now playing with MAC.

 

my hardware is
ASUS M2a VM motherboard
AMD Athlon 4800 CPU,
2GB DDR2 RAM,
1TB Sata HDD.
Nvidia 8400 GS VGA card

Best thing for him to do to get good multimedia is install Perian http://perian.org/

I feel that Apple Finder is very lousy, worse than Windows 7 Explorer.

Ubuntu supports 0 of the top media editors. Mac supports ALL of the top media editors.

That's a big difference.

 

Ubuntu free, Windows and Mac OS are not that's the big difference.

 

Okay...fine? How does that justify his statement that Ubuntu is an effective multimedia OS? It has shit-poor video editing and audio mixing software...its image manipulation is OKAY, I have successfully used GIMP to make products. But even then...it doesn't have good CMYK filters and doesn't support most professional formats.

Even if you dislike MAC -- the best multimedia is done on MAC.
For a while a studio I worked at used some Sony based system...or...I don't remember but it was definitely Windows. It worked -- but when they wanted professional quality they switched on the Mac.
I know of no professional video studios which are using Windows based programs, even cross-overs still maintain their Mac interface.
Even if you're working on a Windows machine....you're still working on a Mac.

And as far as Linux goes, Ubuntu is pretty much at the bottom of the pile of usefulness in ANY field. It doesn't do anything except provide candy-graphics on a gtk2 interface. Its file system is nothing special...its only selling point is that it has one selling point...go figure that if you can! But seriously, it's popular because it's easy...no matter how worthless it is. Honestly, I work on exclusively Linux machines... I would have to debate whether or not I would go with the Win7 or the Ubuntu device.


By the way, Saint, what did you install this on? I looked into it a while back and the system compatibility was disorganized / confusing unless you had one of 3 or 4 desktops, netbooks, or laptops.
