To the scientist and non-scientist posters here:

I apologize if I have caused any inconveinience, and if I have mislead people to believe there was anythin devious about my actions.

I have only just started to work on calculus from the beginning of this year, and has been a major topic to discredit me, for whenever I mentioned partial knowledge on subjects I have learned about for even longer, it's obvious it displeases people.

I couldn't understand why this be so shockingly bad, considering people who obviously do not have a scientific background are easily allowed to come in and share these arbitrary facts.

Due to this, I will save people any inconvenience and cease to post in the physics and mathematics section. I don't wish to cause any more anamosity.

Green Destiny, beating up on the new guy is standard sociological group behavior. If you want them to stop messing with you pick one of the biggest guys and shank him out in the yard.

I think it's more complicated than that. I've weighed the evidence so far, and I don't think some of them are really at me for the reasons they lead on for others to believe.

The fact I have been blamed so far of being several different sock-puppets is one evidence that a group of close-nit individuals here, already, ''have it out for me''. Some people here however have been very nice, with intellectual conversations, such as yourself, neverfly, temur, rpenner (before some strange incident I am yet unaware of, which I PM'd her about, and still no reply), Ben's nice, though I haven't seen him often. And of course, many other people here.

I feel something is more insideous at work here. Though, they like to state I claim more than I know. I am now awaiting evidence to support that fact.

 

If it makes any difference, I noticed it too. However, I think you might be a little oversensitive. People say all kinds of stupid things. To earn the legitimacy to criticize others we have to show the capacity to recognize our own silliness first. Or, that's how it seems to me anyway.

I don't know AlphaNumeric, guest or Prometheus at all. I have no first hand experience with the first two and the last- replied to ONE of my posts with a book recommendation.


This is not a clique.

A lot of the things that others have pointed out about Green Destiny is his MATH.
And that's the key, it takes those that know the math to spot the mistakes. Many of us that don't know the math won't spot them. In fact, they spot more than I do.

I try to be humble about my knowledge in mathematics, because my knowledge in it IS limited.
But I'm not exactly stuck on basic arithmetic, either. I perform algebra constantly, including tutoring the teen that lives here and I do calculus on the average- at least weekly.
I employ trigonometry in my work constantly.

I'm not at these others guys levels, but I'm not entirely ignorant either, in spite of a huge mental block I have against TeX.
Additionally, I get lost on some of the math these guys throw out here sometimes, so I try to keep my mouth shut because I'll probably make a fool of myself by opening it.

I've spotted errors in Green Destiny's calculations that anyone that knew the topic should never have made. It becomes painfully obvious to one with clarity of sight to see... He's putting up more than he can set a stool under.

I don't know the answer to that.

But I think Green Destiny seems like an ok guy and I think we need to all just back off and let Green Destiny find that answer for himself and resolve it for himself.

For me, I have no concern about if he's a sockpuppet of a banned member. If he's not, great. If he is but learns his lesson and contributes something- then he deserves a second chance.

I think speculation about that would do more harm than good. It's up to the Moderators at this point, to do that among themselves.

 

Hey bro, back up a second. I don't mean to "gush" over GD but as an outsider I just noticed that he was catching flak from all sides, even from folks like Pete who in my opinion don't start ripping into people before it's deserved. GD even started a new thread to specifically ask what a tensor was for the following reason

...meaning he's admitting ignorance and asking for help so that they [you] might gain some satisfaction in this admission. The FIRST RESPONSE is a demand from Guest that GD solves a tensor problem; GD asks why he has demands being put on him when he is openly asking for help and seeking knowledge. Guest replies with

Frankly the whole thing boggles my mind. I'm wondering if part of the problem is GD's use of language. Green Destiny, what is your native tongue? Your wording seems just a little bit "off" to me sometimes and maybe it is being perceived as overly pompous by the usual suspects.

 

Two members should know what this means. And you both know who you are.

Imagine that you are talking to a man that talks about the military, specifically the Gulf War and he relates stories from over there as soldiers tell them.
He talks about the people and places over there. He describes combat zones etc.
From all the stories, one would, obviously and clearly conclude that the man was a soldier that served over there. And he seems content to let others think such.

But one day, someone notices that he doesn't seem to understand basic military rank.
When confronted, he avoids the confrontation. When confronted repeatedly, he says he was not in the military and had not been over in the Gulf.

When the others express confusion and ask why he said he had been there, He rightly points out that he never actually claimed that he had.


I think, personally, that this analogy is close enough to explain to those confused as to why there is flack.
That said, let others make up their own minds as to what to make of it and who made the judgment mistakes.

Today is today, yesterday is over and each one of us has the choice to let go of yesterday and Try, Today, to improve the situation and perform Better.
Including Green Destiny and those who pointed out what they were perceiving.
Any of us could be mistaken. Green Destiny could have quite innocently expressed himself in a way he had unintended. It no longer matters. He now knows how to avoid that problem.
Cuz I done Told Him How.
So let's let it go and Try to avoid the problem in the future.

I know and have met Prometheus in real life. He happens to work in the same city I grew up in and there's some overlap in our PhD areas. Guest I haven't met though I've spoken to him a fair bit via PM. I'd say I'm friends with both of them, as much as one can be via the kind of contact the internet allows, but that doesn't make us a 'clique'. We have similar attitudes to people not because of some conspiracy but because our backgrounds and areas of knowledge are very similar. Its a standard thing for a hack to cry "Conspiracy!" or the like when more than one person expresses a similar dislike for their claims, as they don't want to accept more than one person can reach the same conclusion about their work (ie its shit).

I hardly respond to PMs, never mind would go to the bother of forming a clique.

The member in question has been banned at least 3 times already. And if GD isn't Reiku then he still needs to seriously reevaluate what he wants to get out of science because his present course seems to be much like Reiku, only giving the appearance of being well read rather than actually being well read.

Some of you need to learn to motivate some personal thoughts of your own, not thoughts motivated by ''people you have met and respect.''

Science for me, is a never-ending adventure. Just because one has a PhD, does not stop one from learning. You speak as an authorative, but analyzing your posts, I doubt you even work in the mainstream.


With such authority, I see very little professionalism. I don't mean your posts, it's the way you conduct youself.

 

you can think what the hell you like, but it doesn't alter the fact that having a PhD indicates that the person has at some point produced a significant contribution to knowledge in the field. A PhD certainly shouldn't stop you from learning, in fact, most holders of a PhD will tell you that real learning starts with a PhD. That you and I agree on.

I know that you will pass this off as more conspiracy, but as I said, that doesn't alter the facts. Those facts are that AN and I work in the mainstream of theoretical physics and mathematics and you don't. Sorry to burst your bubble.
