I believe that the USA is a better team than Englands but not strong enough for teams like Spain.

Hmmm, on paper the England team should beat the USA comfortably but anything can happen at the World Cup.

It'a worth noting that most of the players in the World Cup play for pride, since they earn far more at their respective clubs. Playing for country does however raise your profile which can of course lead to bigger pay days.

What's the coverage like in the American media?

Of course USA can beat England, they have a fine team and England very often seem to find a way beat themselves at world cup level.
Australia's first match is against Germany, on paper we have even less chance of winning this one but we'll play a tough brand of soccer and can upset any team on our day.

the only reason the world cup matters is the gambling

The ONLY reason? There isn't a single other reason, like say. . . the four billion fans who obsess about it around the world?

    Nahhh. It's just the gambling!

Well, sure, if there are about 20-odd unexplained murders in England before the Cup starts.

So grumpy-pants pj doesn't like soccer. Ok, you don't have to post here. Stick with your baseball and your gridiron, which are hardly international games. Stay parochial. Pretend that no other nations exist. Oh, except for Israel and Palestine, of course - you're far too obsessed with them.

I know soccer fans that have admitted its kind of boring. my grandfather for one.

I see you still choose to break the rules your supposed to enforce but what the hell those with power have always thought themselves above the rules.

And I watch more international and non main stream sports than most. Rugby I have tried cricket(couldn't understand it) I'm sorry but when a game ends with like 3 shots on goal the entire time that boring and uninteresting. don't assume because I dislike soccer I abhor non-american things I enjoy them I just think they should have things happen.

and you take the money and gambling out of soccer and I garentee it support would crash though its not alone.

though I will admit a second reason soccer by far is the easiest and cheapest sport to play.

No one who actually follows the sport and makes a realistic sensible prediction thinks that.

The US doesn't cultivate players like the rest of the world does.

So, from a sample of one you jump to a conclusion. Sounds like you, pj.

What rules have I broken? Hurting your fragile feelings?

Rugby is kinda like American football but without the wussy protection equipment. Cricket is like baseball in terms of its general level of action and excitement, and in the level of obscure statistics that fans are forced to turn to to make it seem more interesting.

As for the 3 shots on goal thing, you're missing the entire point of the game. Since you don't understand soccer and cricket, it's no wonder you're not into them. Your mistake, of course, is that having made a snap judgment, you feel the need to enter threads about those sports and talk like your opinion matters to somebody who knows about the games.

Reducing soccer to gambling is idiotic, and you deserve to be called out on it. Why talk about things you admit you know nothing about?

You really have no idea of the popularity of soccer at the grass-roots level in many nations around the world. You're just making yourself look stupider with every sentence you post.

Tell that to the 204 nations that took part in the World Cup qualification games and the billions of fans on every continent that watched those games and will be watching the finals starting today and running until July 11th.

I doubt very much some of the poorest people on the planet are trying to make a killing on gambling on a notoriously difficult to predict soccer match.

More than that. though that whole jumping to conclusions on your whim is all you james

personal attacks and trolling but we all know your above the rules.

I don't know and at least I can admit when I talk about things I am lacking an knowledge of

now this and all well and good but I believe I will bow out before you childishly resort to more attacks against me and make wild ass guess about me that you pull out of ass and take as fact.

Can't wait for the sport to start, presumably pjd*** will get bored and bug*** off.
Soccer is not boring because scoring is rare. It's not that boring at all. The world cup is played by sportsmen at the very top of their game. The skill level is extraordinary. Any one of the players at the world cup would have better foot skills with their non preferred foot than virtually any NFL player, probably all of them.
I'm not saying they wouldn't get killed in the first 30 seconds of an NFL game, but for pure skill, sporting artistry and athleticism, the world cup is hard to beat.

Serth Evrigga to beat the Mexicans BTW.
