Tesla and his Technology could have and should have brought humanity out of the dark ages. Capitalists like JP Morgan made sure there would be no world utopia and pulled the plug.

    How? With what technology?
And why do you think Tesla was "The best kept secret of the 20th century"?
Have you seen the number of crank websites devoted to him?

Tesla didn't do any work on particle beam weaponry.

    No?
So who, if you're not counting several gazillion websites, is included in "popular knowledge"?

Bunch of websites doesn't necesserily equates being visited by millions. That's where the public knowledge comes from. If geeks among each other know about Tesla that doesn't mean that the man on the street also knows...

Quite. Which would put knowledge of Tesla on par with knowledge of, say, Edison, Hooke or Cockerill.
To claim that Tesla was a "secret" is facile.

You think so and would be wrong about Edison. I don't even know the other 2 guys.

Homework: go out to the streets and ask people about Edison and Tesla. Post the statistics on it....

The point of the OP was that Tesla should be WAY MORE famous. Eistein or Edison famous. Got it?

    That was my point.
Most supposedly "deserving famous people" actually aren't.
The average guy on the street has no more heard of Edison than Tesla or Hooke. Or Cockerill. Or Berners-Lee.
(Actually Tesla's name is probably better known - even if only as "that guy who did the machine in The Prestige").

    And I reiterate.
    Why?

Tesla's name is known to those with an "interest in that sort of thing". And, like most other inventors, doesn't even register to those that aren't.

    Who has particle beam weaponry?

What kind of particles are you talking about?

Why should Tesla be more famous? I guess the OP feels that he contributed way more to society, than what his fame shows. And he is probably right, Tesla is one of the less famous big investors.

I guess underrated is another word. Like there are underrated musicians, there are also less known scientists...
