In an anime called Senkou no Night Raid, they actually did. The anime is obviously fiction, but it is awesome.

It does seem more of a Communist thing. In one movie called "Enemy at the Gates" (about Visily, a Russian sniper during WWII) the first man in line was thrown a rifle. The second man was trown a clip of ammo. The Russians didn't have enough rifles for there men.

One rifle for every two men was not unusual, as the Russians didn't want to waste rifles on men who would likely only live a matter of minutes or moments in their first battle. Casualties were often 80% when frontal assaults were used

The number of Russian troops was OVER 9000!

Back on topic, yeah, they wasted a lot of men that way.

P.S. Who actually gets the joke

They could never have won the war, they could have sued for peace and come out of it in a better position, but they could never have won. Plus, they wouldnt have taken pearl because they would be completely overreaching their abilities.

Pearl harbor was too soon, Japan didn't have the resources, even though at the start the Japanese Navy was Equally if not Superior in Ways to the USA.

    They Underestimated, North American Industry.

Pearl Harbor was the perfect attack, they accomplished their mission, mostly.

    How so?

The turning point is literally when the side that was on the defense went on the offense AND the side that was on the offense goes on the defense. Guadalcanal fits that definition perfectly. Midway nor Pearl Harbor fit that definition in the least.

soullust, the purpose of Midway was to destroy the Pacific fleet. The plan was that it takes at least a year to rebuild what was lost at Pearl Harbor, their goal was to take as much as they can in one year and than sue for peace. Almost like a game of jacks, bounce the ball and grab as many jacks as you can and than catch the ball. Unfortunately it did not work out that way.

If Japan had tried to go for more resources than the US would have raised their alert level and the battleships never would have even been at Hawaii during the attack. Which would mean that Japan has no time to expand and thus defeating the whole purpose.

Pearl Harbor wasn't meant to defeat the US, it was meant to keep us out of the way for a year.

And it actually worked minus a few months.

Agreed, and it was a good plan.

    Short term...

Which is why they should have waited longer.
