If were talking about raw power than the Co Asian Prosperity Sphere definitely takes the cake. I apologize Roman legionairres but as Shogun will likely agree with me you dont count worth s*** against the Japanese fleet carriers, battleships, hell, just the Japanese PT boats could sink the better part of the Roman navy.

    East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.

Anyways, the Japanese Empire is definitely one of the most powerful ( arguably the most powerful ) Empire in history.

    Nippon Banzai!

    Tenno Hekai Banzai!

Shinobi and Samurai can take on legionnaires no problems. Shinobi no Mono.

to find the most powerful empire in the world you need to define "most powerful" first

*waits for someone to come up with a definition that just happens to suit his country*

Yah, I think we should have three different debates.

    1. Most long lived and influential empire of all time

    2. Most physically powerful (the one that could beat any of the others in a war)

    3. The empire that conquered the most land.

Well I stated three.... so how did we get two from three? My 2nd grade mathmatics definitely tell me something is off here

Now for number 2. I'd say the East Asia Co Prosperity by far would win.

Chinese and Japanese. Chinese Empire existed for well over two thousand years. Japanese Empire is just powerful.

Mongol Empire was the largest, and Chinese Dynasties have been around the longest.

I doubt that the "Chinese dynasties" can be considered a single empire

Maybe the Maya civilization has been around the longest

The largest is with little doubt the USSR after ww2

The british empire's influence was laughable compared to all the other powers from history and today - grow up, no good case can be made for them on any count

USSR in technicality is not an Empire, and the Mongol Empire is the largest. Maya was not a single Empire as well

Chinese Dynasties is technically one Empire, using the system left over by the Han Dynasty. If it is one dynasty...then Japan is the longest

    Guy's...

There was and never will be a single empire of the shere size of the British Monarchy at her bigest point.

And if The world wars didn't break out she Probally would be still be the biggest., The only reason Canada was giving her Freedom was Because of our contributions to the War.

IN 1939, the population of Canada was about 12 million people. If you divide that in half, it gives about 6 million males. Subtract those who were too young or too old to serve, and you have about 3 million males of military service age.

By the end of the second world war, Canada had ONE MILLION, ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND MEN IN UNIFORM. That is one out of every three adult males.

BY far, Canada's greatest contribution to the winning of WW2 was the Commonwealth Air Training Plan, which trained 135,000 pilots and aircrew, from 22 different countries, in Canada.

Canada built over 300 airfields and 65 training schools in less than one year, and provided the instructors and ground crews to keep thousands of planes in the air. We also fed and clothed and housed and entertained those thousands of men, and did it at our expense. We also built thousands of aircraft for the CATP and produced the fuel and oil needed, as well as the training manuals and course books and air charts, and even the asphalt and concrete for the runways.

After Canada had manufactured enough small arms to equip it's own army, we started sending rifles, pistols and machine guns to Britain. At the end of WW2, 60 percent of the British Army was armed with Canadian made weapons. We also provided over a million Lee Enfield rifles to the Nationalist Chinese Army and 300,000 Browning 9mm semi-auto pistols to the Australians and the New Zealanders.

The largest class of naval vessel ever made was the Canadian Corvette escort ship, with 237 in total being made during WW2. From the beginning of the war, the Royal Canadian Navy was the chief escort force in the western Atlantic Ocean. By the end of the war, the RCN was the acknowledged leader in anti-submarine warfare, with the most U-boats sunk.

soullust, your argument is off topic, it went from arguing that the British empire was the largest empire to bragging about Canadian accomplishments. Now the fact is I could name many accomplishments from any other allied power that rivals or is greater than the ones you named.

not really, I was just trying to show the reason why the British empire split and it was because of things like that, which kind of obligated England to give it's colonies there freedom. But yeah i did use Canada As a reference, want me to do the same with Australia

definition of empire: "a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government"

the USSR fits. as well as the maya's. you're just making stupid excuses to satisfy your obsession with asians.

ehhhh, 14 lines of your statement involved bragging about canada in WW2 and only 1 line of your statement had to do anything with the thread's topic...

But I dont get that claim of Canada having the largest ship class. I know that it wasn't physically the largest ship at the time nor the largest in it's class. And I am pretty confident in saying, hell, Im positive in saying it wasn't the most produced ship of WW2.

But the fact is even though the Canadian navy was the thrid largest navy after WW2, it still wasn't big at all. To give you an idea, the first place navy was the US navy and we had over 70% of the world's naval vessels and naval tonnage of ships over 1,000 tonnes

USSR is Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

It is a dictatorship, not an monarchy, because the "throne" isn't passed down from generations. They are still smaller then the Mongol Empire at it's height.

Maya isn't a SINGLE Empire by your definition, because of the Dynasty change......

The longest single dynasty is the Japanese Empire, there was only ONE Imperial family.

Nope, the Mongol Empire at it's height was larger.

    Mongol Empire:
    British Empire:
So the Mongols had 98% of the land that the British did and 22% of the population.
How does that make it larger?
