Anything that allows air into it will be affected by whayever is in the air. So smoke of anykind COULD damage your HD over time.

Well indirectly Yes smoke will dammage a Hard drive what will happen it this. The smoke will be taken in VIA the cooling fans in the PC/Laptop that smoke hs nicotine in it and that nicotine is very sticky. The nictine attaches to the heat sinks and colling fans over time dust in the air sticks to the nicotine. And this causes the system to run hottoer and hotter which in turn puts heat stress on the Hard drive and then eventually cauing a failure. The HD it's self is sealed but it wil be effected by heat.

Second hand smoke is a first hand killer.

Harddrives are usually sealed. Smoke will however coat computer components when sucked in through cooling vents, the smoke will layer tar across internal components over time and the tar will allow dust/fluff/fur/hair to stick to it.

This causes a thermal blanket effect and can cause PSU's/CPU's and GPU's to overheat, if your computer heats up enough it will effect the harddrive, perhaps by causing any bearings to expand etc.

As for if it would effect a hard drive camcorder, again tar sticks to the surfaces if in a confined space and dust will stick.

Also obviously: "Smoking is seriously bad for your health" etc.

I'm a heavy smoker, and smoke at my computer. Nicotine can accumulate in your case, but it takes a while. Dust will accumulate at much faster rate, so it's a good idea to blow our your case and fans every couple of months.

I would say it has absolutely no effect and may act as a coating. The last part i threw in there for the hell of it. I just blew out a friends computer, he didnt ask me to but i just couldnt keep it like that. Dust, fuzz balls that looked like tumble weed and no smoking at all in the room and i have seen this many times. If he was a smoker i cannot see it being any worse at all.

This is an extreme case of smoking, 2 packs a day. If you google for "inside smokers computer" and check the images, there are loads of them.

I am in the Computer industry and I used o smoke at least 2 packs a a day at my PC. And I can conclusively tell you that smoking will encourage the buildup of dust particulates. And yes you can blow them out and keep them clean then you are less likely to have an over heating problem. But if you do not clean the system on a regular basis it will over heat.

SMOKING will definitly not harm your computer Hard Disk ....
But could be a problem for all the rest of the equipment (cooling fas, electronic components etc....

As smoke contain nicotine and tha t nicotine after the time stick to anything she can (yea yeah not only loungs) it will start sticking on all thse equipement so make them difficult to be cooled and so the temperature of the compenents will increase and you could get into computer crashes due to that.

forgot to mention that an HD could not be damaged by smoke as it is a sealed component and so no air/smoke can get into it

It's not so much the Nicotine, It's more the Tar that is released when a person smokes. It builds up over time and dust sticks to it, it's not that great to paint over if decorating a room either.
