Today the Senate is to vote on a motion to debate Finance Reform. Democrats are for the Senate debate, Republicans are against. Will Republicans maintain their anti-Finance Reform debate position when it comes to a vote later today?

Personally, I hope they continue to do what they have done every since President Obama took office...vote againt the bill. And if I were a Democrat, I would drop finance reform until the elections and use it to run against the Republicans.

Republicans and Democrats are saying they are close on a deal. But I remember hearing that for almost a year last year when the subject was healthcare reform. I expect the same to be true of finance reform.

It is clear that Republicans are again coming down in favor of the special interests that lead the Republican Party.

    Huh?

    Wheres the war at now?

I have a suggestion, why don't the USA government not have a financial reform, and we can all, take a trip back to 2008, in a couple of years?

Well Repbulicans did stop Senate debate on reform of the financial industry...leaving the nation and the world subject to a globlal melt down round 2.

It is now very clear, that Republicans put their special interest sponsors above all else, including the nation.

What's so wrong about debating the financial system? It obviously has some kinks in it. I don't get. So unfortunate

After the Great Depression of 1929, an analysis of the events that caused the depression was undertaken and a series of financial reforms were put in place to prevent such a melt down from ever occuring again (e.g. Glass-Stegal).

A decade ago, a Republican Congress under pressure from special interests, removed those restrictions (e.g. reversal of Glasss-Stegal) that had served us well for most of the last century. This allowed banks to become involved in risky unregulated markets turning our banking system into a very large unregulated casino. Financial insitutitions were making large bets and they made some large profits, until they started loosing the bets.

Republicans in the Senate again thwarted debate on finance reform by voting against a measure to allow debate of financial reform on the floor of the Senate.

I would like to make a prediction:

They will probably favor large financial institutions and make consolidation of smaller banks into large conglomerates that much easier.

These financial reforms won't really be reforms so much. I'm going to look into it further in the week to come and see if I'm right.

Well if Republicans have their way, nothing in the way of reform will happen. However, the Democrats do have a very modest reform proposal upon which they would like to debate in the Senate but the senate Republicans keep voting to prevent such debate.

"Both sides" (there are actually more than two sides, but, ehhh...

    ) make equally good scapegoats.

Reminds me of a story of a Soviet premier telling the incoming leader to keep these two sealed letters in case of political turmoil, and open one for each major crisis.

The first major crisis occurs, and he opens the first letter. The letter from the previous president says, "Blame the problems on me."

A while down the road, a second crisis occurs. He opens the second letter, and it says, "Get ready to write two more letters!"

So it sounds like they don't even want anyone to hear about it? Maybe that works to the advantage of both parties?

I'll assume you are guffawing at the Soviet letter story...

Well, it is rather true to life, is it not? The blame game? The easy way out.. push the blame on a convenient target, and send them to the cross.

Or the other way around. Find any way to blame prosperity on your particularly favoured party. Turn the ugliest policies (like the Oxymoron Act) into a work of art.

i can name a few world leaders who were masters.

All i know, is that i really hope the USA recovers, and Recovers stronger.

I mean i don't agree with some of the policies, but i can say the same for most nations.

And i am god damn scared of what a country like china would do if the USA did fall, You guys are the world police (The USA), and i respect that, and i also like that the Police have allot of the same rights and freedoms at heart that i cherish.

I kind of just us that as an example to wards The USA, not that they are the police, but they do have allot of world power and don't seem to mind bombing the shit out of a country, if there getting out of hand.

But then again, that topic was kind of not spoken of after the Iraq invasion.
    I wonder why lol

And they Also seem to get involved in stupid situations. So yeah i take that comment back.

But i still like having the usa on my side. are you American or Russian or where you from?

Democrats are going to try for a third time to allow debate on Wall Street reforms. It will be interesting to see if Republicans will still stand together to yet again prevent open debate on reform of Wall Street.

Republican restistance to debating finance reform collapses.

Republicans have successfully prevented debate on reform of the finance industry for three days straight...each time threatening to filibuster. Yesterday the Democrats told senate Republicans, you want to filibuster...go for it. So they rolled out the cots and suddenly Republicans lost their desire to filibuster...what an amazing thing.

I don't know why it took the Democrats so long to decide to actually let the Republicans filibuster. The answer to the filibuster threat, is to let it happen.
