Nikolai Fomenko is the master behind this piece of motoring mastery, the famous TV anchor, singer, presenter and actor using his experience gained in the FIA N-GT championships (he was the champion) to launch Russia's first sportscar company. The result? The Marussia.

Unique, it is 100 per cent electric, has a 240 hp, 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine, an autonomy of 400 kilometers and can reach 100 kph in 5 seconds. The interior is surrounded with video screens and the driver's toys include GPS, Bluetooth, a 320 GB hard drive, 10 Mbps data transfer rates and a 4G Yota network. For 100.000 USD, it is the bargain of the millennium.

How is it 100% electric if it has an engine?

Nope, a 3.5 liter six-cylinder engine is not electric. The pictures even show the engine.

They probably misstranslated it. Like 100% eccentric or eclectic or something...Remember, these are the people who build airplanes like this:

It looks about as elegant as a Russian gangster in a yellow track suit.

I'm still trying to figure out where the electric part is. The article in the OP is clearly wrong about it being 100% electric...as it obviously has a gasoline engine. I looked for other articles about the car. Some mentioned it being a hybrid...some didn't.. SG posted a pic of the rear of the car in post 4...I only see a gas engine. Pictures of the front of the car don't show any electric motors or batteries either. I'm wondering if it's just gas only.

I wouldn't be so quick to call it a "supercar". 240 hp with a 0-60 in 5 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph doesn't really say "supercar" to me.

According to Russia Today, the Marussia is the brainchild of ADD-addled Nikolay Fomenko, who's got his fingers in everything from racing to theatrical acting. The Marussia starts with a tube-frame chassis onto which composite body panels are attached. The modular nature of the body means changes can be made easily to tweak the look of the car. That modular nature carries over in the engine bay, where the car will initially launch with a 240 to 300 HP version of the Nissan VQ V6.

However, they are working on an all-electric version set for unveil sometime in the middle of this year which would debut a nanotech battery sourced from a mysterious "Russian construction bureau." This EV version of the Marussia would ticket for around $100k and run for a claimed 248 miles on a single charge and even work in Russia's frigid climate. Some bold claims to be sure. Even if an electric version never comes, and the gas motor version doesn't exactly have barn-burning power numbers, it does look pretty cool, and with bargain pricing it might be a perfect option for all of those Russian oligarchs which find themselves only stinking rich, instead of filthy rich these days.

So... this version is gasoline powered, but the next version will be all electric.

Indeed. My decidedly non-sporty Pontiac sedan with its 3.4L V6 can supposedly do 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds, although I've never actually tried it. High-end sports cars are generally expected to be well under 5 seconds. For something calling itself a "super car," I would expect under 3.5 seconds. There are certainly plenty of other cars able to do 0 to 60 in under 3.5...

I believe that is the "B1" model..an earlier version. The B2 is in the OP.

Obviously the B1's designers liked Batman.

The 2010 Camaro SS can do it in 5 seconds.

The Tesla Roadster - which actually is an electric car - easily beats the stated performance of this thing in all categories, and costs about the same.

It would be really neat if they can actually deliver on that 248 mile range for the all - electric version.

Porsche has a neat all - electric out there now.

I saw MA-Russia car and think its amazing. Thinking of buying it in the future as well. Though I got to say the thing is not electric as they claim.
