This is my computer and I always wondered what that little square thing is on the monitor to the right of the left hinge.

Probably a mechanism for detecting if the lid is open or closed......so if you close it while the OS is still running, it will execute whatever behavior has been selected (IE - turn off LCD, go into sleep/hibernate mode, etc)

It's actually a tracking device put there by the illuminati. It reports your exact coordinates so that they can fly over your position with airplanes and release chemtrails.

    Do you hear any airplanes?

    lol

Yep, that's what you get for making the mistake of buying a Dell.

MZ3Boy84, it might help if we knew what you're talking about. i for one, can't see what it is that your talking about. Edit the pic and highlight this mysterious object your concerned with. Again, it's a Dell so, I've no doubt that the manual you got was as vague and unhelpful as possible..

You picture doesn't make it easy to see. But I'd guess it's either a sensor to detect when the lid is shut, or a light sensor to control the LCD's brightness.

I've worked on quite of few of those D series Dell's. It's the light sensor.

Dude!! what's that sticky stuff on the keyboard?
