If this is the wrong forum please feel free to move it.
    ---------------------------------------------------------

I have been considering spending some of my idle time (which seems to be vanishing at an alarming rate) to try and see what possible solutions, if any, I might be able to come up with to some or all of the major problems currently facing humanity (hey you never know). But, as the old saying goes, understanding the problem is half the solution. So I am creating this thread to solicit input from other people on what problems we are currently facing so I can get a better grasp of what’s going on.

I have thrown together a list of what I know of off the top of my head below. However, while typing the list up I started to notice that they seem to be falling into two categories. It appears to follow something from Shakespeare – All the world is a stage which humanity dances out their lives on... The Stage and The Dance. Ok so I’m a nut…

    List of Issues

    The Stage:
    • Air - Air pollution, Global Warming etc
    • Water - Water Pollution, Lack of Fresh Water etc
    • Food - Quality, Availability and the resources needed to produce food
    • Housing – Our homes, Earth, Environment, Species Extinction & other environmental issues not included in Air, Water & Food
    • Transportation – Because no matter where you go, there you are.
    • Resources – Scarcity, Recycling, Manufacturing the things we use in our daily lives.

    The Dance:
    • Disease
    • Crime
    • War
    • Money
    • Drugs
    • Law
    • Taxes
    • Economy
    • Politics
    • Shopping
    • Traffic
    • Gossip
    • Entertainment
    • Sex

I sorted the list (stage) using the following criteria: You can live without air for approximately two minutes, without water for two days, without food for two weeks and life wouldn’t be much fun without housing, transportation and cell phones (resources). Ok maybe it would be better without cell phones…

I suspect though that if you sort the list by the importance people place on them by the amount of time spent on a subject it might look like this:

    The Dance:
    • Sex
    • Entertainment
    • Gossip
    • Traffic
    • Shopping
    • Economy
    • Taxes
    • Law
    • Drugs
    • Money
    • War
    • Crime
    • Disease

    The Stage:
    • Resources
    • Housing
    • Food
    • Water
    • Air

Anyway - Any suggestions on what other problems I might be missing? I think I would like to concentrate on the stage at the moment which, judging by the order of the second list, means that not very many people will be interested in this

Because of different perspectives, it would be impossible to arrange everything in a priority that would satisfy everyone.

But I'll take on three of the issues - energy, air and water. As we slowly wean ourselves off fossil fuels, we'll naturally see improvements in air and water quality. (I'll stop there for now because it would be easy to write a whole book here.)

I don't think I adequately represented energy. Thanks for the input.

Also I was mostly looking for catagories or issues - not in any particular order.

Yes, energy will *always* be a major issue. You're welcome.

And here's another BIGGIE that I didn't spot on the list (pardon me if I somehow overlooked it: Jobs/employment. It appears that there will *never* again be enough to go around.
