Yeah, that book is pretty interesting. It would be interesting to know how the theories of psychopharmacology suggested in that book hold up, if anyone knows (I'm no expert). Specifically the hypotheses about DMT being the primary active psychedelic chemical, and other hallucinogens working by interfering with pineal gland suppression mechanisms.

I have that book too. Although I never tried it, a friend of mine had a near death experience that involved elaborate hallucinations. He interpreted it in the context of his Christianity, but I suggested it might be DMT.

I've never done it myself, but have read that book. Its certainly interesting to say the least.

The following is a great page for all kinds of information on psychodelic drugs. It has some pretty extensive links to all kinds of DMT info:

    http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/psychoactives.shtml

One of my favorite features on this page is the "chem-compare". If your into the chemistry of psychadelic drugs, this can get really interesting! For example, psilocin(which is what psilocyin (the active psychadelic in mushrooms) breaks down to in your system) is almost identical to DMT!

Thanks for the info and links! sorry took me so long to get back to this thread. From my understanding the DMT drug is actually pretty rare to get a hold of atm because it takes some effort to extract from plants etc.

What I find the most interesting about DMT is the points the body naturaly releases it. Death and REM sleep. Interestingly enough its a naturally occurring substance in the human brain yet it is apparently a serious illegal narcotic.

Actually, its pretty abundant! A lot of plants have it in them. Erowid has links on how to extract it, though it would be pretty difficult to do so.

I don't know where you are from, but this plant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_canary_grass contains some DMT. Not sure if there is enough to extract, but it grows all over the place in MN where I live. I'm sure some research could lead you to an answer. You can order seeds of plants that have high concentrations of it from erowid.

Have you heard of Alex Grey? He's an artist whose art is inspired by DMT trips. Heres his homepage http://www.alexgrey.com/

Also, if you are a Tool fan, many of their songs and one of their albums is either about/inspired by DMT.

Drugs like DMT are illegal because of historical reasons rather than their addictive qualities.
Within cultures that use them, they are a part of religious ceremonies rather than used for pleasure.

If you do get hold of some, I'll almost guarantee that you don't use it to any great extent.
    Too much work.

Yes I am a ver big fan of Tool! I also noticed Alex Grey's art seemed to be on my favorite tool shirt! lol....

Joe Rogan does alot of talking about DMT too (of of my favorite comics along with Bill Hicks and George Carlin.)

Rogan's descrip of DMT is similar to some of the clients in the book I read.

Extracting DMT seems nothing short of a PITA

Oh yeah... Extraction definitely sounds challenging. Would probably be a fun experiment though, and I'm sure you would learn a lot!

I think ayahuasca is more interesting as a drug, a brew of DMT and an MAOI. Plus other things found in the area. That's what makes each Indian community in the Amazonas carry a different variety of the drink.

I have tried 1. A friend traveled and tried 6 types. He said the one I tried was the only one he regretted. We both relived the experience with the words of

    DEATH, INSANITY, DREAD, & HELL

I still think it was a great experience but for kids out there thinking it's cool like mushrooms or something, it can't be more different, it is seriously intense.

    * I have to comment that this is the brew of the original head hunters or Shuar Indians. Brewed especially by an 82 year old Shaman that I had stayed with for some months.

Ask away if you have any specific questions about the subject.

Terrence McKenna simply adored DMT. Look where he is now.

Well first thing I remember that really struck me was the French girl next to me getting up and a black wet dripping snake coming out of her p**ny at me. Then Indians slowly came out of the jungle , etc till it was too chaotic to make out anything.

Well like most drugs you will still be conscious. So even if I take 10 big hits of acid, or drink a huge jug of ayahuasca, consciousness won't change. I meditated through the greater half of that ayahuasca trip and it was as if I were sober. It only got chaotic when I started trying to think. As long as I was only breathing and focusing on that breath, its as if the drug had no effect and I was right back in my living room.

That's really the trick to not going insane

and p**ny sorry I was being silly. I meant v*gina

While I don't have an explicit problem with discussions centering around the pharmacology and biochemistry of various substances of various legalities, after pondering the matter for some time, and after a suggestion from a poster, I've decided to merge the various threads dealing with this topic, in the hope that it would be advantageous to the chemistry sub forum to do so, while facillitating further discussion.

DMT is by far the worlds most powerful drug, it will change your perspective on life and have an unexplainable experience and is told to be much much more potent than LSD, look it up

    Thanks for the advice...
I personally believe too much of that simply makes a person delusional about reality, where bizarre visions become your religion. I feel it is possibly misleading, in either a major or minor way. I can't really tell. I could be completely wrong.
    Thank you for your cooperation,
