Well, there IS a female condom, but I'd be damned if I knew how to work one.

Either way, hopefully the context was clear: if a simple medical procedure could give a drastic difference in terms of a public health benefit, why NOT do it?

Sure---but one has to compare apples to apples. Circumcision reduces the risk of HPV but so does wearing a condom. Most likely condom use in Europe is higher, which corresponds to lower levels of STDs. Either way, the point is that circumcision reduces one's risk of contraction.

I have never met a woman who has ever used the female condom. If your assertion is correct that the health benefits are less STD transmission then why isn't this working in the US? Why is your rate of transmission higher than that of uncircumcised Europe?

What's wrong with Americans that they can't just wear condoms? Why advocate global circumcision when there are condoms?

I think its an unnecessary procedure and the only reason why anyone would advocate either male or female circumcision is because it was once done to them!

But, Lucy, isn't that the essence of "culture"? And you, of all people, should be more attuned to the acceptance of diverse cultures than most people. Yet here you're arguing against diversity in cultural rituals. What's the deal?

No Baron I am arguing that there shouldn't be a campaign where ALL newborns are automatically circumcised because they may later come in contact with an STD. If someone chooses to circumcise their son that's fine with me just keep that scalpel away from those proud shar pei's

Circumcised men are a minority worldwide and I don't buy this argument that we have to somehow promote circumcision in Africa because of the dreaded disease. Instead tell the pope to stop condemning his priests and nuns who try and promote condom use in the continent. That would help! The catholic church has openly condemned condom use and now you have others suggesting clipping the men even when they cannot explain why there is a higher rate of STD transmission in the States even though the men are mostly clipped!

The deal is that human sacrifice used to be acceptable in some cultures, Max. Clearly some practices need to be challenged.

well, here ya go. An artificial retractable foreskin. Just for you, a trial pack of 4 for only $29 plus S&H.

I don't quite understand the testimonials, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I'm not sure that would help, either, Lucy. In many parts of Africa, the people (men?) think that if they have HIV or AIDS (or other STDs?), they can be cured by raping young virgin women/girls. Now tell me, with that kind of attitude, education and intelliegence, do you seriously think that "we" could convince them to wear a condom? Or do anything else sensible?

Ages ago, before the HIV and Herpes issues, I had a friend tell me that humans were going to fuck themselves to death. I thought at the time that he was joking. Then as I got older, I began to realize the horrid issues of overpopulation and drastic food shortages all over the world, and I think he might have been right. Humans are going to fuck themselves into extinction!

Orly, that artificial retractable foreskin looks like a winner, perfect for when you've got a tight 'situation' on your hands and no lube or innate foreskin.

I'm wondering though, if I put that thing over my own foreskin whether I'd have an eightskin or just a really slippery dick which might slip in and out of time zones, slip out for a coffee, slip in front at queues and slip down the boozer for a pint.
I'm booked in for my eightskin removal next week, small procedure, known as a slipodictomy. The doc did do a preliminary inspection prior to booking me in for said procedure. He called it circumspection.

Someone told me that once you get rid of one disease a new one will soon be emerging. I dont know if i believe it because that insinuate that nature has some consciousness. Weather i agree or not he has precedence on his side.

It's not consciousness, it's just filling a niche. Life adapts and if one organism is pushed out (in this case, a pathogen), another steps in to take it's place.
