Its a difference in degree, I would save my pets before I saved a strange person I did not know. After all, I've known them for years

As far as domestication: We deomesticate animals that dont have ar have little ability to eat us. So even though a lion wouldnt mind being pampered they just cannot overcome the instinct to eat prey and the fact that they CAN is too overwhelming. Although there was a youtube clip of a guy who was treating grown lions like they were little kittens and getting away with it, i cant recommend this because under certain circumstances he would be eaten and the lion wouldnt care at all because it is the natural inclination to seek out prey.

We eat a lot of animals we keep as pets too. Pigs and hens for example are both pretty loving and intelligent. I think it all comes down to attitude - animals also recognise when they are treated with respect [but you don't know what a strange animal has been through and even a small one should be treated with caution - its the same as taking candy from a stranger]

I don't "own" my pets, I only "invite" them to live with me. I treat them like family members or best friends. We don't "own" family members or best friends, do we...? We simply live with them and taking care of each other.

It's probably selfish, but not unethical. Being irresponsible of the pets, though (such as don't give them foods/drinks/medication, caging them like birds in cages, don't let them mating, etc.), is unethical.

    We don't slave pets.

    Same reasons most people have.

Ok, so let's say I am a vegan. Is this justification?

Depends, do you have potted plants? Even a garden where you breed slave plants for consumption?

    That's quite comical.

We own them. We don't own people, though, do we?

Ah yes, the selfish reasons. Thanks.

They do recognize it but if one day the lion decides to eat the person who has been feeding it people cannot get angry or look at the animal as 'evil' because that is a primitive reaction.

Same for dogs, if a dog is very large there is no way i would trust the animal around a small child if an adult was not right there and could control the animal.

There is also something called temperament but that is just the nature of the animal. Pigs and chickens are not carnivores.

Dont want to get OT, but even an insect, if it was big enough, would eat a human.

Humans are. Which only goes to show which one you can really trust, eh?

    Ever heard of Armin Meiwes?

Now that I think of it, actually it's the other way around. They think they own me. One day, I just walked home from school and this kitty was following me. Meaooww... meaowww.. like a crying baby .. I walked slowly, it walked slowly following me. Then, I ran, it also ran, tried to follow me. :runaway: I feel pity so I let her came with me to my house, joined few other cats at home: eating, sleeping, playing, etc.

Humans are omnivores so that is an interesting point. Often times people believe that by becoming vegetarian means that they are not omnivores by nature. Too bad things dont work out hat way because changing the diet does not change the true nature.

Very noble, but we have to ask ourselves where that kitten came from? Did it fall out of the sky?

No, they aren't carnivores, they are omnivores, same as us. :bugeye: pigs eat other animals. They will eat each other and they will eat people too. Its why my grandpa never let us kids in the pen the pigs were kept. Better safe than sorry he said

Probably, but then who would buy their food? Its like having a really good nanny you cannot afford to lose.
