Is prostitution a form of barter where you own a person's body?

Is there anything that one is not legally permitted to do to a bought sexual partner?

IOW, if you pay for sex, are you trafficking in that persons body?

I wouldn't think you would own that person's body anymore than my boss would own my mind.
Its just services rendered that you are buying.

But usually those services are rendered through an agent, how much commission the server gets is a difference of degree

Whats the difference you see in human trafficking vs prostitution?

I'm not certain that prostitution is always consensual, none of the prostitutes I met were in it because they wanted to be.

Sometimes it was their caste, at other times financial limitations.

Has anyone studied this? Is a majority of prostitution consensual?

In the same vein, if a person consents to being eaten, is it legal to cook and eat them?

Not at all. Under normal circumstances, you pay for the service and the service lasts for under 1 hour. That said, the key word is normal, how many involved in prostitution are normal?

How would you define normal? Also does time matter? What if you pay the same person twice a week for ten years? Does it make a difference to the transaction?

Meanwhile, what I am asking is, is there anything done in the course of a bought-for-sex transaction that is considered illegal? Can a prostitute cry rape if she is violated without her consent, even if she is paid for it?

how many prostitutes have you met? I have met several who enjoy their work.
if financial limitations causing someone to take up a job as a prostitute is the same as human trafficking then isn't everyone who took a job they don't like a slave?
It's not legal, but I can't see any moral problems with it. I imagine it will be legal the same day as drugs, prostitution and assisted suicide are legalised, when the government stops intervening in personal matters which don't affect anyone else.

Do you extend that to cannibalism? Can a person consent to be consumed? How much does consent matter when its a financial transaction of a person?

REPLY: Why do you equate prostitution with being able legally do whatever you want with a prostitute. That is not the way it works and you should be honest about it. It`s a normal part of life in many areas of the world including places like Amsterdam and Berlin and Nevada, and on and on. Most of these women do this work because they choose to and many are well paid for their services. It`s part of life. Their are a lot of worse jobs in this world. I lot of these women enjoy this work, that is why they choose to do it. Not all, but many.
I spent time in Okinawa during the VIET NAM WAR. This was where the vast majority of soldiers and marines passed through on thier way to VIET NAM and on their way back from Viet Nam if they made it back. I did 2 so called yours their and after my second tour in VIET NAM was assigned as an MP in Okinawa. It seemed to me everybody had a pretty good time there. They were mostly very young men and this was their last chance to be with a woman before going to Viet Nam. Should they have been denied some last chance at being with a woman. They paid for it and most of the women seemed pretty darn happy being there. Some of these poor chumps would fall in love with these women and get taken for every dollar they had. I saw it happen many times. Prostitution isn`t going away because the people involved in it want to be involved in it most of the time. I know this is not always the case and in those forced situations should be treated as the crimes they are. But the vast majority of it is women doing what they choose to with their lives and is not some sad tragedy. Do you think they would prefer being some scrub woman or peasant farmer. By and large the men on Okinawa treated the women well and the very few that did not were dealt with. ...fellowtraveler

So can a prostitute cry rape if she is violated against her will, even if she was paid for it?

Its a consent question. Since you mentioned consent.Does a prostitute have the right, separate from being a part of a financial transaction, of refusing sex for any reason?

Or is he/she effectively owned for that time slot and cannot refuse?

she can always say no. If she says no, but takes his money and gives nothing in return, he has been robbed.
If she says no, takes his money and he takes the sex, its rape.
If she says no, gives back the money, he takes the sex and leaves her the money, its rape.

Does it legally pan out like that? Has a prostitute who accused a customer of rape been granted it?

    How would they prove it?

    Yes.

    Depends on the particular circumstances.

yes. just a week ago here there was a cop charged with "inducing consent through threat" after he threatened to impound a prostitutes car if she didn't have sex with him. I don't know of any in cases where sex was physically forced, but then again rape is a fairly rare occurrence on an island of only one million people. The point still stands though, that if a prostitute refuses sex, it is rape, just as it would be if she wasn't a prostitute. If she says no after taking the money then it is a civil matter the same as if a painter took your money then refused to paint your house.

So his/her body is a "service" he/she is offering just like a painters tradescraft?

REPLY: If she changes her mind AND RETURNS THE money I would say the deal was off. I never heard of anyone crying rape. What do you propose : that they take the money and scream rape and the man be punished ? Why do you insist on coming up with all these unlikely scenarios ? ... traveler

I'm trying to understand the mindset of those who pay for sex, if they even see the "body" as a person, you know, someone's son/daughter, brother/sister, maybe even father/mother. Or just a receptacle for exchanging body fluids. Do any of these people ever look at their kids and think, my kids got a great body, he/she would make a swell prostitute! Is it a career choice to them?
