Seriously, people who pay to see shit like Saw or Hostel are equivalent to the ones who frequented the Roman Coliseums. I can't understand how anyone could be entertained by a film when it's primary focus is to depict the dismemberment of the human body, and the agonizing pain one experiences during the sadistic ordeal. It's alarming that there's even a market for these type of films. Horror films like Paranormal Activity proves that you can still scare people without showing them being tortured in unspeakable ways. I know SAW has a cult following. So can any of the SAW fans explain what's so entertaining about watching others being tortured?
I don't understand the fascination either. I love scary movies so of course, on principle, I went and saw the first SAW in the theater, but I wasn't scared, I was just disgusted and disappointed and actually laughed at some parts because it was terrible acting compounded with horrific scenes of mutiliation. I fell asleep watching the second SAW on TV. All I can say is...stupid and boring and crude. I went and saw Hostel and barely made it through the film. I was soooo disgusted. What is fascinating about some chicks eyeball being taken out with a blow-torch???? Barf. I have quit wasting my time and money on those movies. Blood and guts don't scare me, they make me feel like some pervert voyeur. When my friend was murdered they posted pics of his blood and everything else on the streets all over the papers and I wanted to vomit. Losing a friend in a violent way cures one of even the curiosity of graphic "horror" films. I can't even talk about it. I've learned my lesson. If you've ever lost a loved one in a violent way you'll never feel the same about those terrible films.
I would say morbid curiosity. We are all fascinated by horrific deaths because it terrifies most and stimulates others. Still...until it happens to someone you care about it's just a movie Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Is that the only thing in life that you don't understand? Surely there must be other things that you don't understand. So, do you take the same approach to all those things, or is it just because humans are "harmed"? So what else in modern society would you like to control? How many other people would you like to change into something like yourself? Do you think that all people should think, act, talk and be like all other people? Whatever happened to the ideal of individualism and diversity? Or is that only the ideal, which is easy to claim, even while being disgusted at some other things in life? Shouldn't sadists get to enjoy life, too? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Baron Max
Blood and Guts never meant to scare ppl. There is also the real edition of Torture Porn.Snuff movies, which are real videos where they torture (usually) women to death in 'sexual' and 'twisted' ways. Saw -before it got lame- was interesting cause u wanted to see the victims reactions, what would they do to survive, how would they feel etc the curiosity is based on what would You feel/do if u were in their shoes,we all somewhat 'afraid' of what we are capable of etc. Ofc there is the pure sadistic side of all people but thats another big story.
I can't understand how creationists like you still exist in 2009. I can't understand hardly anything you say. To bad the ignore function was removed. I never insinuated that I wanted to control anything. I proposed a question as to why do we have so many sick people who'll pay to watch people being decapitated. I assume your one of them. I think people should be civilized enough not to create "entertainment" based solely on human suffering.
Looks like someone can't tell the difference between real and make-believe... I play Grand Theft Auto IV on my PS3. I guess that makes me the moral equivalent of a real life murderer and carjacker? :bugeye:
Huh? How the fuck did "creationsim" get into this discussion????? ...LOL! I thought you didn't want to control the actions of others? Now you're saying that they shouldn't be allowed to make silly movies about human suffering. Would that include some of the news media showing the starvation scenes in places like Darfur and India and Bangladesh? Interesting, however .....if we follow your ideals, there could be no such thing as the many video games that are available. What do you think about that kind of entertainment?? I think again, we're stuck with you trying to justify the statement of some silly ideal .....in a world that far, far away from any such ideal. Ideals are easy to state, but reality often shows them to be nothing but silly fantasies. Baron Max
The cops are on their way to your place right now! Sorry, but people like you just shouldn't be allowed to live in such a peaceful, wonderful society as ours. I'll write to you in prison if you give me your address. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Baron Max
I agree. I hate movies, Gany, where people are harmed for someone else's pleasure. I won't even suffer through the commercials. My boyfriend loves them and I find it hard to resist (and sometimes fail to resist) telling him how much of a pea-brained troglodyte he is for paying money to watch a human being getting tortured. ~String
They are still capitalizing on a few early 70s movies like texas chainsaw massacre et al. Whoever makes them figures someone is stupid enough to go see them. Personally, I never cared for those movies.
I love horror movies, but not the shitty torture porn ones. There is a difference between proper horror movies and that shit. Proper horror movies are the ones that deal with fears most people have, death, the unknown, the collapse of societal infrastructure and such things. They're more about facing your fears in a safe, vicarious way. You don't have to actually fight those zombies, Milla Jovovich does it for you. That's my theory anyway. Torture porn is nothing like that crap. It's just mutilation for the sake of mutilation.
